PULLMAN, Wash. – There was little drama as the Oregon State football team put away Washington State 42-10 on Saturday in Martin Stadium.

Here’s link to my story on the game. Here’s a link to the Game Center, which is the play-by-play. Here’s a link to the notebook. Here’s the report card.

The Cougars did put a up a fight. Boosters in the press box were abuzz with how well the offensive line held up in the first half.

OSU started fast, but there was that typical lull in the middle. It was 21-10 at halftime, but the Beavers put the game way quickly in the third quarter.

“At 21-10 we were pretty comfortable,” LB Keaton Kristick said. “We had to do what we had to and we came out with a win.”

At halftime we didn’t make adjustments, and we just executed better,” WR James Rodgers said. “We knew these guys would come out and play hard. They were hungry for a win.”

Now the Beavers prepare for the Civil War and the Rose Bowl is on the line. Here’s a link to my main story in Sunday’s GT, detailing what’s ahead.

And let me just say, for those who think coach Mike Riley doesn’t show enough emotion, his postgame speech was as intense as I’ve overheard outside a locker room.

DT Brennan Olander (knee), TE Brady Camp (shoulder) and DE Taylor Henry (leg) were hurt in the game. Olander’s could be serious, Riley said. There was no report on Henry right after the game.

Yes, these guys were cold. PHOTO/AP

PULLMAN, Wash. – The early-morning trip went well with no issues. The guy behind the rental car counter in Spokane told me a winter storm warning is going on for this evening and tomorrow.

Weather reports earlier said snow showers during the game. I guess that puts me on a tight deadline to get out of here and back to Spokane, where I’m staying.

Anyway, after I warm up a bit I’ll update some more. There is an OSU equipment guy in shorts and t-shirt as he sets stuff up. That’s crazy, even for me.

The Beavers are in all white uniforms. Reports from the support personnel is that everything went smooth on the trip. They kept the boys out of trouble on the means streets of Moscow, Idaho.

There’s a stiff wind blowing north to south through the stadium. The U.S. flag is being stretched out pretty good. The wind swirls at times. It might be another one of those 3-for-5 FG days for Justin Kahut.

With 14 minutes left before kickoff, there are about 5,000 people in the stands. It’s Senior Day in Pullman. You gotta feel bad about it for those guys.

First quarter
That was easy. The Beavers take the first drive 10 plays 80 yards for a TD. Sean Canfield hit Damola Adeniji on an 11-yard pass over the middle. OSU up 7-0, 10:29.

Kahut kicks ball out of play. WSU takes ball on 40-yard line. Cougars are driving.

DT Brennan Olander started to limp off the field, and went down. Trainers helped him off the field. It’s a left leg issue. He got a knew brace and is walking around.

Cougars kick a 29-yard FG. It was an 11-play, 49-yard drive. OSU still up 7-3, 5:05.

Eight plays later the Beavers score another TD. Jacquizz Rodgers ran one into from 10 yards out. It was an eight-play, 65-yard drive. OSU up 14-3, 1:19.

Beavers force a punt. Taylor Kavanaugh and Kevan Walker were back. Coach Mike Riley said this week that Walker was going to return punts in the near future. I guess the future is now.

Second quarter
The Beavers open the quarter with a 65-yard drive. Canfield to TE Joe Halahuni on a 10-yard pass. OSU up 21-3, 9:26.

OSU’s defense has settled down. The Cougars were stopped again.

Canfield throws an INT by S Xavier Hicks. WSU ball on its own 25. The defense holds, and then the offense stalls and needs to punt. WSU on the move again.

Cougars get 30 yards of penalties to help them on the final drive of the half. Dwight Tardy scores on a 1-yard off tackle play with 10 seconds left. Beavers go into the half up 21-10.

Third quarter
The defense holds on first WSU drive, forcing a punt. On OSU’s next drive Quizz received the biggest hit of his OSU career. He was taken off his feet and the ball dislodged on a reception, making it incomplete. OSU ends up punting on its first drive.

Beavers get on the board with their second drive. WR Markus Wheaton scored on a 10-yard TD off the fly sweep. Beavers lead 28-10, 1:32.

Fourth quarter
Rodgers scores on a 39-yard TD run. He looked like he was bottled up, but squeezed out of the pile. OSU up 35-10, 12:10. That was Quizz’ 19th rushing TD this season. That ties the OSU’s single-season record.

OK, game’s over. I have to head down to the field and find the interview area somewhere on campus, and then find a hidden place to write. Check back soon and I’ll have a postgame blog up.

Cliff: Saturday football reading Comments

Nov21

There’s not much time to catch up on Oregon State football reading today with the game at Washington State kicking off at 2 p.m.

Here’s a link to my main story the GT on what’s a stake today, opponent and the vibe of the team.

Once you click on the story you will be able to see all the stories in the week about the Beavers and the Cougars. Be sure to check out the videos.

Here’s a link to my five keys to the game. My pick for the game was 45-7 OSU. The Beavers should put this one away early and save the starters from potential injury.

The most interesting thing about the game is how’s the weather going to hold up. I’m dressing warmer than usual. I have a jacket.

My trip to Pullman, Wash., started in the wee hours again. Wish me luck heading to the end of the earth in the winter.

Since there’s no TV, check back on the blog throughout the day. I’ll be updating throughout the game. And of course, follow me at twitter.com/cliffgt and see how the trip goes.

The above video will warm you up. It was what shown to the team before the Washington game.
