Cliff: Kristick at the combine Comments

Mar5

Former Oregon State OLB Keaton Kristick’s experience at the NFL combine last weekend wasn’t perfect, but he felt he made a strong impression.

The 4 a.m. wake-up calls and long days got to him a little, so when it came time to perform the physical tests at the end there were mixed results.

Kristick plans to take a second run at the 40-yard dash and bench press March 12 at OSU’s pro day, when NFL scouts record data for a second time for those who were at the combine and those not invited.

“It was an experience, that’s for sure,” Kristick said. “It really catches up to you. You can be told all about how everything turns to you when it’s your turn, but you won’t be ready. Everything went out the window when I went down there.”

Kristick was disappointed with his 40 time. He ran it in 4.7 seconds, after recording 4.5 during his training. During his bench Kristick hit the rack and that disrupted his lift.

“It was a nerve-racking experience,” he said.

His interviews went well. He spoke with about 20 teams informally and two formally.

“It all went good there,” Kristick said. “They got to know me pretty well. It was really a second impression because I talked with a lot of the same teams when I was the East-West (Shrine Game).”

The IQ tests were easy for him and his medical exams went well. Teams were very thorough, which surprised him.

Teams were very concerned with an old concussion and his tendency to suffer stingers.

“I had a lot of extra late-night testing for my neck and stingers,” Kristick said. “They were really making a lot about that. The concussion I had a couple years ago. I think they blew it out of proportion. But I guess I understand with all the money they put into this.”

An important impression Kristick made was about his size. He added 20 pounds since the end of the season and is up to 234. If he can record a good time in the 40 at pro day, scouts will take notice.

Also, here’s a link to my story on Lyle Moevao in Friday’s GT. The main difference from my previous blog, it has Moevao quotes from when we talked last night.

Cliff: NFL combine report Comments

Former Oregon State football players QB Sean Canfield and LB Keaton Kristick have been at the NFL combine over the weekend, working out and meeting the NFL higher ups.

Being a QB, Canfield had a lot writing about him. Here’s a story from one of his hometown papers, the San Diego Union-Tribune, here.

He ran the 60-yard shuttle in 11.99 seconds, third among the QBs. Here’s a report that didn’t mention him in other physical tests. Another report wasn’t favorable here.

There’s little found on Kristick. If anyone finds anything, post a comment. I’ll highlight it in the main post.

And check out this podcast interview of OSU assistant wrestling coach Troy Steiner after the Pac-10 title victory.
