Cliff: Next faculty athletics rep Comments

Feb26

Joseph Spatafora, a professor in the Department of Botany and Plant Pathology at Oregon State, will be the new faculty athletics representative starting July 1.

OSU President Ed Ray appointed Spatafora to the position, which represents the interests of the faculty and administration in matters relating to intercollegiate athletics. Spatafora will serve as OSU’s representative to the Pacific-10 Conference Council, and as a delegate to NCAA meetings.

Spatafora takes over for Kelvin Koong, who is wrapping up his five-year term.

The faculty athletics representative works closely with athletic director Bob De Carolis, meets regularly with the athletic department’s compliance team, and advises Ray and the OSU Faculty Senate about athletic department issues.

Cliff: OSU football notes Comments

Oct29

The Oregon State football team wrapped up its last contact practice of the week Thursday afternoon. The offense worked out in a slight, but steady, rain. There’s a good chance for bad weather Saturday, so it was good to prepare for the elements.

RB Jacquizz Rodgers (ankle) started practice, but didn’t finish. Coach Mike Riley wanted to rest him. He had a good workout Wednesday, so he’s tapering.

WR James Rodgers (knee) went the distance during the week. He’ll be at full strength for the game. He’ll even return kicks, even though his backup S Jordan Poyer showed some explosiveness last weekend with a 70-yard return.

LB David Pa’aluhi (sick) returned to practice after a day off. Riley said there’s no swine flu going around the team.

WR Geno Munoz (hip) returned to practice this week. He’ll be dressed and be available in a reserve role.

Greyshirt WR Kevin Cummings has been visiting the Beavers the last two days. He’ll be here in January. The rest of the greyshirts are still set to make it into school, yes that includes WR Reggie Dunn (at the moment).

Here’s a link to OSU president Ed Ray being elected chair of the NCAA Executive Committee, and chair of the search committee for an NCAA president.
