Cliff: Pac-10 hoops honor Comments

Feb5

The Pacific-10 Conference will honor 10 former men’s basketball players with their induction into the Pac-10 Men’s Basketball Hall of Honor during the Pac-10 tournament in March.

They are Mike Bibby (Arizona), Jeremy Veal (Arizona State), Earl Robinson (California), Kenya Wilkins (Oregon), Dave Gambee (Oregon State), John Arrillaga (Stanford), Reggie Miller (UCLA), John Block (USC), Eldridge Recasner (Washington) and Paul Lindemann (Washington State).

Gambee is a two-time All-American and All-Pacific Coast Conference selection. He is one of five OSU players to earn All-American honors twice in their careers.

Following the 1957-58 season, the 6-foot-7 forward left his mark on the record book as the school’s career leader in points scored (1,468), third in rebounds (828), rebounding average (10.6) and free throws made (400). He recorded five 30-plus scoring games, including a career-high 35 points in a 79-69 victory over Yale in 1957.

After 12 seasons in the NBA where he averaged 10.6 points and 5.2 rebounds, Gambee retired following the 1969-70 season. He was inducted into the State of Oregon Hall of Fame in 1980 and the Oregon State Athletic Hall of Fame in 1991.

Cliff: Saturday football reading Comments

Oct10

The Oregon State football pregame/game blog for you to comment or ask questions will be up soon after I get to Reser Stadium this afternoon.

To get you in the mood, here’s some reading material.

Here’s a link to my main story in Saturday’s GT. It’s on the need for OSU to get its running game on track to defended Stanford. That’s right, defend. If Jacquizz Rodgers outdoes Toby Gerhart, there won’t be a big need to fret about the defense.

Here’s a link to the five areas the Beavers must win in the game to win the overall game.

Here’s a link to the players to watch. It’s LB Keaton Kristick vs. Gerhart. Here’s a link to an update with Kristick if you missed a few days ago.

This is the wrong sport, but it’s that time of year to start thinking about college hoops. So take a look, from the OSU Youtube channel:

Cliff: Football schedule change, hoops TV Comments

Oct8

The Oregon State football team’s road game with Washington next season is expected to move to the last game of the season on Dec. 4, instead of being Oct. 16.

Washington updated its schedule with the change, but OSU sports information director Steve Fenk said it has been talked about but not finalized. Athletic director Bob De Carolis is out of town and couldn’t comment. NOTE: The Huskies were premature with the update, so they took it down off their Web site.

The game would be after the Nov. 27 Civil War in Reser Stadium. The reason for the move is to give both teams a midseason bye week.

“Those midseason byes are big,” Fenk said. “Washington hasn’t had one in years, and we like them. It’s all about getting healthy and nothing else.”

This is the only expected major change to the 2010 schedule. There’s a chance that the two non-conference games Sept. 18 against Louisville and Sept. 25 at Boise State could move to Thursday night game for a national television broadcast.

Here’s the projected 2010 football schedule

  • Sept. 4 Eastern Washington
  • Sept. 11 Open
  • Sept. 18 Louisville
  • Sept. 25 at Boise State
  • Oct. 2 Arizona State
  • Oct. 9 at Arizona
  • Oct. 16 Open
  • Oct. 23 USC
  • Oct. 30 California
  • Nov. 6 at UCLA
  • Nov. 13 Washington State
  • Nov. 20 at Stanford
  • Nov. 27 Oregon
  • Dec. 4 at Washington

Hoops TV
The men’s basketball team will be on television at least 17 times this season. The schedule includes at least seven games on national television and an appearance on CBS when Beavers travel to face California on Jan. 23.

More games could be televised with the games against Washington State and Washington to close out the season. They could be broadcast as part of the Pacific-10 Conference wildcard package.

OSU will make its first television appearance Dec. 4 in a home game against Colorado at 8:00 p.m. in a game nationally televised by FSN. Click here for the full schedule
