Construction on the Oregon State football team facilities are coming along.
New turf is being put in Reser Stadium, and first-time turf is being put in the practice facility.
Check out the look of the practice facility. The finishing touches were being done when I went by Monday morning.
While I was there, a few of the coaches were showing various recruits around. One looked pretty big.
Don’t ask me who it was. I don’t memorize mug shots off of recruiting sites.
So, the coaches are working at recruiting, contrary to the feeling among some in cyberspace.

Does anyone out there think OSU should of done something Bold and put in Orange or Black Turf in Reser to juice things up? Your comments please.

I see where you are coming from, but orange turf might be hard to look at. Black might have been interesting. Hard to know without seeing it.

How about something wild or different with the Turf. Any Ideas out there?

No dunerat, no one else wants to see black and orange turf.

If OS does anything like Boise St, I’d rather it be tough aggressive football…

Look how awful the colored fields look on TV. I get a headache after the first quarter.
I agree that we better focus on a better product ON the field.
I like the Tennessee end zones with the checkerboard though ( orange and white )

I’m not a big fan of it I just thought I would put it out there. I use to make fun the Ducks uniforms, I mean they have had some awful ones. But look at where the Ducks are today, And the Beavs? Where are they. Coaches said early on that they actually credited better recruiting over the years because of it. But we don’t want do anything different, it may draw attention to the program. They didn’t do anything to draw attenion to the program when they were winning. And its probably best to stay quiet now, beings where there at now.

My hunch is that paying agents for top recruits is a lot more productive that goofy effing uniforms! I’ll be interested in how they recruit when they don’t have schollie’s to offer and can’t play in the post season…..

I do not like the idea of having a colored field, there has to another way to bring positive attention to Oregon State…right?

interesting…kind of a “win games and they will come” type of deal. It is crazy enough it just might work.

I like the idea of a field that catches the eye, without being outrageous. My outside-the-box idea for the day is a light-grey field. Grey is a neutral, and technically a lighter version of OSU’s black…so you could argue it’s OSU’s colors. It’s not over-the-top to the point that it would annoy people–and wouldn’t blind fans and defenders alike, as BSU’s does. Probably the biggest challenge would be how to make the yardage lines “pop” without making it a dark grey.
Point being…I’d love to see something clean, memorable, and not over-the-top. Maybe grey wouldn’t be realistic but a checkerboard in the end zone would be a nice addition (although not all that unique).

We should never have gotten rid of the checkerboard, I am pretty sure that we had the checkerboard endzone before Tennessee. I have to do a little bit of research on that.
bone says:

We indeed had checkerboard enzones before Tennessee. We had them as early as 1953, Tennessee had them put in 1964. Would ours have been as iconic?
WFO says:

I agree, black and orange checkerboard endzones would be great.

Also,as long as there’s no grumpy muskrat anywhere on the field that’s a step in the right direction.

Rather than mess around with the color of the field, take a cue from the ducks and do something with the uniforms. Remember when the Beavers met Notre Dame in the Fiesta Bowl and were The Men in Black? Then met them again and were proud to say “We’re Back!” The team needs to take on a persona: “We are the men in Black. We are not cool, we are bad ass!” The only uniform option should be black. Get rid of the orange or white jerseys; get rid of the white pants. All black all the time — okay you can have a little orange trim. Let some other team be the good guys in the white hats; the Beavers wear the black hats, and are bad ass!

YES! I just don’t think we could get away with wearing all black for away games, but I agree get rid of the white pants and orange jerseys.

As the late, great Bo Diddley always answered when asked why he always wore black on stage:”Black is Bad!!”

That is a great idea and I would love to see it.
Unfortunately a few years ago the students on campus tried to organize a “BLACK OUT” game where everyone in the stands wore nothing but black. One of the student interest group got offended and the black out had to be canceled.
People can be hyper sensitive about things like that, I don’t see the administration adopting something that edgy…

FBS schools are no longer allowed to have turf that is any other color than green. Unfortunately fBSu is grandfathered in and exempt from this rule.
And before you mention Eastern Washington, they are an FCS school.
Beaver77 says:

Blah: You are correct. FBS schools are no longer allowed to have colored fields. That said, maybe adding Orange to the end zones on the PRACTICE field would be cool!

Jerry2005 says:

It could be if we were able to put receivers at every position on the field.
6’4” and athletic, this kid is a good recruit to add depth for the future at WR but there are positions that DESPERATELY need help this year.
When the coaches start recruiting to fill the GAPING holes in our roster, then things will be “looking up”.
Tagup says:
Jul 10, 2012
You do realize that the kids being recruited now won’t be here for a year…none of them will help this year no matter what position they play!
Jerry2005 says:
Jul 10, 2012
Yeah and we are at least two years away from having any hope for the interior of our D-line. By all means lets keep ignoring that and stack more receivers on the sidelines…
Tagup says:

Well, I’m cautiously optimistic for this years group…..I also would like to see some new blood on the DL….I’m sure the coaching staff is aware of the need as well…..I think we will see some action in this area. I know he is not a DL, but the kid that visited this week (Lopez) is a very good OL and big too…. He would be a nice pickup.
Jeff says:

Blah – I think that rule is a myth – there is nothing stopping schools from using a different color of turf (other than taste).
dunerat says:

Its easy to say just win and everything will be fine. The hard part is getting there and staying there. 60% of it is attracting good football players. Maybe this Coaching staff just fell asleep 4 yrs ago. We can hope they did and now they are awake.

For what it’s worth, the Mountain West Conference is disallowing BSU from wearing their Blue jerseys for home games. I’m a Duck fan. I hope the PAC-12 never tells UO they can’t wear green jerseys for home games.
wcjr says:
Jul 10, 2012
No worries for the Ducks as far as green is concerned. I’m sure you’ve noticed they have taken a page from the Beaver sartorial handbook and wear black as often as possible. Chip wears a black shirt with green trim every game. Seems UO is making a bit of an effort to go from green to black as often as they can.

Even if rules allowed OSU to put in a black turf field, it would fade after a couple years and look bad. But by all means, get creative with the endzones.
I was under the impression that OSU was going to move the turf from Reser to the practice fields – probably to save money. Did they get some donation to put new turn on the practice fields too?
