Oregon State football players Jordan Poyer and Trevor Romaine were selected to the College Football Performance Awards preseason watch lists for punt returners and specialists.
Poyer, a senior from Astoria, is considered one of the top cornerbacks in the nation. He was a Pacific-12 Conference second-team selection last season after 57 tackles, 12 pass deflections and four interceptions.
He averaged 14.1 yards on punt returns last year and set a Reser Stadium record with an 85-yard return for a touchdown against UCLA. He also averaged 22.7 yards on 30 kickoff returns.
Romaine, a sophomore from Corona, Calif., was one of eight true-freshmen kickers at the Football Bowl Subdivision level in 2011. He set an OSU record for touchbacks with 10 (from the 30-yard line) and made 15 of 22 field goal attempts. Romaine accounted for 72 points, second among true freshmen kickers, for the season.

Poyer should be added to a DB watchlist soon, correct? I hope they take him off of kick-offs at least. There’s enough speed on the team that they shouldn’t risk there #1db on KO returns in my opinion. I can’t believe they haven’t been able to get Parker, a former track sprinter and wr (or was it rb?) to become a competent KO return man.

Wish I could be reading about good things happening on the recruiting trail, but at least this is better than bad news…
