Several Oregon State athletes are making the fourth Beavers Without Borders trip as you read this.
Partnered with Holt International they departed Sunday for Silti Ethiopia where the team of athletes will construct two homes, distribute footwear and compete in local sporting events.
OL Josh Andrews and DB Brian Watkins are involved and gymnast Stephanie McGregor.
Check out the video and links to see what they are trying to accomplish. I’ll catch up with them when they get back.
Also, McGregor is blogging about the trip. Check out the first one out here. And then the next one.

Beavers Without Borders-
While I totally commend and support the various respective efforts by these Beaver Athletes, I have to ask a couple of questions;
“With our own Country experiencing the hardships of such far reaching and difficult economic times, why wouldn’t the aid and assistance be extended for those who are suffering in our own Homeland?
Why aren’t are own citizens needs being considered the highest and foremost priority”?

Those concerns are best served by “Beavers WITHIN Borders”.

I guess G.K proves that some people can look for the negative in everything. God Bless G.K., I hope you are out helping those in need here that you describe and not just critisizng the goodwill that others are spreading.

Plus, African poverty is orders of magnitude more dire than American poverty. Not to say that people here don’t need help, but that is a thoroughly ignorant comment.

Congrats to these Beavs for going beyond themselves to help others. As an ‘SC fan (son of a Beaver), I know about Saint Barkley & Co going to Haiti, but this is a great story, shows that other athletes from the PAC-12 care about things other than themselves. Kudos to the Beavers for stepping up and giving of themselves.
We need more stories like this, about athletes giving back, and less about the Sandusky’s of college sports……. Beavers should be proud of these student-athletes.

This is a great initiative and there will allways be the argument about “charity begins at home” but what this should do is inspire others to also help those less fortunate than themselves in any way they can, that will do most for getting help to all who need it.
