The Knights vs. Walla Walla on Thursday.

The Corvallis Knights defeated the Walla Walla Sweets on Thursday 5-1 at Goss Stadium before a crowd of 1,063.

Corvallis (8-4) moved a half game closer to West Coast League West Division leader the Bend Elks.

It’s early in the season, but the roster is in flux due to guys just joining the team now that their terms are up in school.

The Knights have been using temporary guys so far, and have been doing well.

“Our 10-day temporary guys have done well the last few days,” coach Brooke Knight said. “They have made it hard on some of the (roster) decisions we have to make. But we’ll put it together the best we can.”

There were stellar defensive plays and strong pitching. The story of the game is the return of Max Beatty from testicular cancer. Read more about his story here.

Beatty, Aaron Corwin (Corvallis) and Devon Barker combined to dominate the Sweets hitters.

These two teams wrap up a three-game series at 6:40 p.m. on Friday, and then the Knights go face the Elks.

And don’t forget the San Diego Chicken will be at Goss Stadium on Friday night.
