Here’s the defensive recruiting rundown for the Oregon State football team. Thanks again to Rivals.com
Nine DEs are offered, five of them four-star athletes. Two of the four-star guys are committed elsewhere.
OSU takes another run of replenishing DTs with 10 offers, three to four-star guys. One of them is headed to Mississippi.
Nine LBs have offers, three are four-star guys. One of them is headed to Washington. Two are three-star guys and three are JC guys. One of them — d’Vante Henry — was an OSU commit in the past.
The Beavers love to stockpile DBs, and they are trying to do it again.
There are 12 CBs offered, five four-star guys. Two are committed elsewhere.
There are 12 safties with four already taken. The one five-star guys is going to USC and one of the four four-star guys is going to Tennessee.
And six offers are out to athletes, who usually end up as a DB of OLB.
So, we’ll see what the Beavers end up with. I’m sure the offer list will grow after the June 22-25 camps and commitments will start soon after.

The spin doctor is in! Say what you will, but we have no commitments, a sliding record over the last four years, and no real changes on the coaching staff that will make a difference. It is what it is, we hit the spotlight for a decade or so, and will re-inhabit the cellar for the next one. Nothing us fans can do about it, but just go along for the ride, weathering the storm.

I find it interesting the aploogists often like to say OSU finds “fit” players and isn’t just simply out looking for the top talent.
While I’d love to believe that, its telling that there are apparently hundreds of these “fit” players that are getting offers. (well over a hundred at least). Sounds a bit more like canvassing.

Beavs Believe: it’s clear you’re intimately, at least emotionally, tied to the program in some way. Don’t take these blog posts from folks personally.
A key to achieving great things is addressing the cold hard truths. Whether you agree or not with people’s individual analysis and opinions, having an outlet like this is critical to forward progress.
What if no one ever complained? Just accepted what we got? Really, where would that get us?
With that said, a five win year is a down year. A three win year indicates dysfunction.
Many of us want an answer to what has caused that dysfunction. Those who do not have their head in the sand.

I don’t necessarily agree that a 3 win season indicates dysfunction…..The reason for last years drop off seemed pretty obvious to me….weak OL recruiting and above average number of injuries. I believe and I think Riley’s record shows season’s like last year to be an anomaly. The OL recruiting was addressed with last years class but there still are and always will be weak spots that the team will need to overcome. The reality is that 5* guys generally won’t come..and not because they don’t get offers …For that reason OSU recruiting needs to find under the radar players that can develop into Pac 12 caliber players.Something Riley has done pretty well. The Rodger’s brothers were a perfect example of some pretty good evaluation of talent. I don’t mind if people complain or discuss weaknesses in the program, but projecting future failures of the program based on the number of verbals received in mid June is a little silly don’t you think? Let’s wait and see who actually signs a letter then can get qualified. Then we can bitch about all the things we should have done differently….

I don’t understand what you’re getting at by pointing out that I’m emotionally attached to the program. I think it’s safe to say we all are. That’s why we follow them, and cheer for them. So, that’s kind of a silly thing to type.
I don’t think that anyone here thinks that 5 or 3 win years are good years. You can stop pointing that out. We get it. There is just a clear split between the people who want to get on here, and call for the heads of coaches over 2 down years, in which there were numerous injuries to expected starters.
What if no one ever complained? I can’t imagine a world so fantastic. Standing around the water cooler, crying about how bad something is, doesn’t change a darn thing. Take action. I’m sorry, but posting on a forum doesn’t count. You want the beavs to get better recruits? Donate more money. Find a way to volunteer. Help the program.
You say you want answers, yet are completely deaf to the explanations. You don’t want answers, you want something to cry about.

Seems pretty clear, the results speak for themselves. OSU is developing a “losers” stigma. Riley had better make some chnages soon or it is going to be a return of the Avazanno, Fertig, et al era.

i do agree with most of the blogs here. undo some of the smart-alike ones. but dili has it right riley needs to step up to the plate and start hitting home runs or we will and have to make a change it happens in ever program not just are;s. the coach gets the job done with whats he has or he has to step down their aint no crying in sports. that that and that is all.

Every school in the Pac 12 already has at least one 4* commit except for OSU and Utah, and Utah still has four 3* guys committed. There is no possible way anyone can spin this to make it sound less pathetic than it really is.

You can’t win in the Pac-12 without Pac-12 talent, and the talent that has other BCS options is opting for those options. It is setting up for a repeat of the problem that the lack of quality and depth at multiple positions, most notably the O-line, last year caused.
Some of the better players are looking at a huge number of returning players with still multiple years left, and seeing slim playing time opportunities, and opting to go elsewhere. Eventually, these returning players will move on, and a down recruiting year leaves the Beavs unprepared to reload. More players playing out of position, and without backup. We already know how that works.
Oregon St. is now paying the price for a variety of mistakes the last 2 1/2 years, and will suffer the consequences in about 2 1/2 years.

So I was reading the Pac-12 blog on ESPN.COM and came to the lunch links as I always do. It has been a while so I scrolled down to see what I have missed. This blog was featured and after reading it and the comments that followed, I clicked back to the Pac-12 blog and came across what I believe is the main reason for the lack of recruits. The Beavs are 11th on the list for the best facilities…..I think that has more to do with it then the staff. Think about it, would you want to come play at OSU when you can be 40 minutes down the road and have a room full of big screen tv’s, playstation/xbox 360 gaming consols and Uncle Knight throwing money in your face? OSU needs to find a face of the fanchise, Steven Jackson? Chad Johnson? Gary Payton is showing his face around the basketball program and I believe that is starting to help. Reser’s Fine foods are good for late night binge drinking snacks but they won’t bring in top recruits…..

It seems to me that the key word is being “aggressive” and I don’t see that. I like Riley and I don’t have a problem with the offense necessarily. Ground and pound with playaction can still work, just look at Wisconsin. Lack of aggression in that O would be a problem. Lack of bigs in the trenches would be a problem. The D is a whole other story. Ooi! There just is a lack of aggression that is coming out of the whole football machine. BDC schedules like he is a WAC team. One more “tune up” game would have really come in handy this year. Boise St, Utah, TCU, and now even WSU realize that extra work and extra noise in the ear of recruits helps get them in. None of those towns are traditional fb powers(ok maybe TCU), yet they are making it work. You cannot operate like you are U$C and are entitled to great players and you cannot go, “oh well its just lil o’ Corvallis, I really hope you would grace us with your presence in our backward lil’ town.” RichRod and Graham even out recruited OS without a full year to prepare! It might be a better year this year; might even pull out a bowl, but it might be a good idea to put people like Bronco Mendenhall, Gary Anderson, Sonny Dykes, and Noel Mazzone on speed dial. Maybe even Petrino since developing character in young men is passe’ in the new world of CFB and he already was trying to poach all of the better OS recruits down there in Pig country anyway.

Happy Fathers Day Beaver Nation! well is it time to push the panic button or be patient with this years recruiting class? It’s a bit early to go into full panic but there is also good reason to be a bit nervous at this point. Why no commits to date? is it the facilities? the current staff? is the glass half empty or half full? only time will tell.
One thing to keep in mind is that many of these young men that are four and five star recruits want to play NOW. I recently looked at the Beavers 2012 roster and here is how it breaks down. there are currently 18 Seniors, 20 Juniors, 28 Sophomores, and 26 Red Shirt Freshman and 24 incoming Freshman. After reviewing the current roster and also looking at the 2012 recruiting class there are only a couple positions that need added depth. Now here’s where I need you to be patient with me in that I know many of you are saying “there are multiple positions of need!”. This where we again have to ask, is the glass half empty or half full.
This question will be answered this summer when the 2012 recruiting class hits Corvallis. Potential impact Freshman include a name we all know and that Isaac Seumalo, 5 star guard and son of Joe. If he is as good as everyone says he is, he will immediately upgrade a weak O line. Other names to watch are Stanley Hasiak, in 08 he was a 4 star recruit and rated the #9 guard in his class. These two guys should come in and help the running game from day one, I personally feel we have solid talent at running back and with Downtown Chris Brown coming in. The Beavers have good depth and youth at the running back position.
There are a number of other O lineman that could start next year, Grant Bays, Garrett Weinreich and a mauler named Gavin Andrews. If you get a chance google Andrews and watch the tape on this kid. He faced young Mr Armstead the Ducks 5 star recruit and crown of their 2012 recruiting class in the California playoffs last year. By all accounts Andrews handled Armstead who of coarse was said to not be 100% but then again who is at the end of the season.
The Beavers are deep at running back, Linebacker, Defensive end, Safety, QB when you count incoming Freshman Brent Vanderveen, TE/H Back and Wide Receiver. Areas of opportunity to come in and play early are O line, Defensive Tackle a position that the past 2 years we have failed to address. How many Defensive ends and offensive lineman can we convert to D tackle!. With such a low number of quality tackles on the roster am I the only one who has considered going with a 3-4 scheme, with all the youth and talent at linebacker get some of these kids on the field and play to your strengths. Corner back is also an area that a young talent could see an opportunity to see early playing time.
The current beaver roster is loaded with young talent and that’s good news for the fans who see the glass half full, it’s also bad news for the fans who see the glass half empty. When you look at the schedule and take off the rosy glasses this years team will most likely win 5 games. As usual they will lose to a team they should beat and beat a team they should lose to but in the end they will be in the middle of the pack.
If the Beavers can rally past the slow start and salvage a solid 2013 class then things may stabilize and we might even see some consistency with the roster depth. If not then the Beavers should be competitive in the 2013 and 2014 seasons only to fall right back into the bottom of the pack 12.
Is the glass half empty or half full? only time will tell and as Beaver fans we will all have to cross our fingers hold our collective breath and watch things play out. One can only hope the powers that be don’t sit on their hands if things go south or there may not be any glass to talk about.

How delusional are you?!?!?! what a joke, so the reason why the beavers dont get 5/4 star recruits (none the less, any at all this year, to date) is because of your depth??? The top teams around the country have crazy depth yet still get top recruits. i.e Oregon. Excuses, excuses.
