Here’s the latest picture of the Oregon State track and how construction is going.
Seeing the picture on the home page of the blog looks better than right here.
Momentum continues to build for the team since it’s headed into the end of the outdoor season. The Pacific-12 Conference meet is in Eugene on Saturday and Sunday.
As noted in a previous blog, WR Markus Wheaton is doing well as a sprinter. WR Obum Gwacham continues impress on the high jump.
Gwacham will be in the high jump at the Pac-12 meet at 4:30 p.m. Saturday. WR Brandin Cooks, CB Keynan Parker and Wheaton are in the 100 meters at 3:40 p.m., and do the 400 relay with CB Malcolm Marable at 1:25 p.m. The runners could advance to Sunday’s finals if they do well.
On the women’s side, Laura Carlyle does the 1,500 meters at 2 p.m. Saturday, Taylor Hunt, Emily LaValley and Lacey London do the 800 at 4:25 p.m., Taylor Nowlin and Whitney Pitman do the 3,000 steeplechase at 5 p.m. and Erin Jones takes on the 10,000 meters at 7:05 p.m.
The 10,000 and 3,000 steeplechase are finals. However, the rest of the runners can advance to Sunday’s finals.
Justine Bird and Kristin Oenning do the high jump at 1:40 p.m. Sunday. Kinsey Gomez, Sandra Martinez and Jones run the 5,000 meters at 3:40 p.m.

It doesn’t look like there is much space for a grandstand of any kind. Is there no thought of being able to attract the Pac 12 championships at some point? Don’t people have to have a place to sit… or don’t the athletes need some place to dress down and shower? It doesn’t apear they are future oriented… our facility should at least compete with UO’s… especially since it’s new… right?

In the virtual tour there appeared to be much more than what’s shown here. But who knows. What you’re saying makes sense Jeff but I think there is more to the facility.
I still find it funny every time I hear about these meets–that Wheaton beat Thomas in the 100 yet the articles don’t even mention that Thomas happened to lose to an OSU football player. Instead they want to keep the hype up that the ducks have the fastest football player in the country–when in reality he’s not even the fastest in a 50-mile radius.

I think DAT has more football speed than Wheaton, the race shows Thomas out of the box quicker but Wheaton and the guy from UW pass him at the end.

The grandstand will be along the Philomath Blvd stretch – I imagine they could put in seating for 2000 along there – which is similar to what I saw the last time I was at Stanford’s facility. The capacity of Heyward Field is not typical of a college track facility.

So what you are saying is DAT is quicker, not faster.
