The Oregon State wrestling team finished the best season for the program since 1998’s ninth place finish in the NCAA tournament.
The Beavers took 10th this year and had three All-Americans. That’s the most since four in 1995.
“I thought it was a good season for us,” coach Jim Zalesky said. “I liked what they did in the offseason. You could see the guys working hard. And that paid off.”
Read more about how they did in my Wednesday story in the GT. It’s also a look ahead with eight (nine) returners.
Chad Hanke returns off his redshirt next season for the ninth returner. He’ll fill in for heavyweight Clayton Jack.
OSU should be back strong again.

So Penn State wins with 128.5 vs the Beavers at 40.5. How may wrestlers did Penn State have entered in Nationals?

I’m going to guess 10 out 10. Six All-American score big, too.

Eight. Minnesota had the most with nine and we got second place. We beat Penn State in our dual and had the best dual meet record in the Big Ten. All of PSU’s favored wrestlers dominated and they had a couple of wrestlers place higher than expected. Great job by the Beavs. Might be hard to move up much next year. Most of the Big Ten teams that finished in the top ten have really young teams. MN has won three times in the last decade and our coach has stated that he expects to win next year now that all the youngsters have a year under their belts. Congrats to Coach Z.

Coach Zalesky and his men did a great job this year-looking forward to next year already.
