Check out the latest Oregon State football team video previewing spring practice. This one is with sophomore WR Brandin Cooks.
Cooks is going to be the go-to WR for the next three years. You can expect to see a lot of passes to him from sophomore QB Sean Mannion.
He caught 31 passes for 391 yards and three TDs last season as a true freshman.

Cliff, the “go-to WR” Are you suggesting that he has surpassed Wheaton as our #1 option?

Not specifically. OSU has two good options next year with Cooks being the guy for two more years after that.

Good comment about the importance of track for him. Looking forward to seeing his progress next season! I think him and Wheaton together will be really dynamic and balanced.

Cooks has better ands and speed than Wheaton so I agree that he will be the “go to” guy in 2012-2015!

The Beavers have strong odds to make the CBI Final as long as they play hard and want it. The experience and momentum of 22+ wins is good for the program and can help assure the Basketball Practice Facility is started this summer.

My big questions are: Will Jordan Bishop stay healthy to finally have a breakout season and will Langsdorf ever use the impossible leaping ability of Obum Gwacham in the red zone? My highly uneducated guess is that not many DB’s in the Pac 12 (or any conf) could high jump over 7 feet, which Gwacham has proven.

You know the answer. Even when healthy(although not often) Bishop was not thrown to enough. Besides James and Marcus it was rare when any of our other receivers(Halahuni anyone?) was thrown to more than 2-3 times a game. However, we can always hope Danny realizes we have plenty of capable receivers on this team. Maybe our head coach can open his eyes to this. Not really a stretch to say we will have perhaps our deepest stable of pass catchers in recent memory.Hopefully they will be used accordingly

Langs hasn’t shown any tendency to spread things around or to use more than three or four pages of the playbook. He’ll say he was limited by the abilities of the players; gotta believe it will take direction by Riley to cause a really significant change this time around.
Reno’s point about Obum is right on, if there are concerns about his hands there is time for those to be addressed, isn’t that part of the reason coaches are hired?

I think the bigger concern for Obum is getting off the line of scrimmage and his speed getting into his route……He has tons of potential but you have to be where your QB expects you to be or it’s on to the next option…..

WCJR / ONEOLD – Excellent pts made, gents. Langsdorf clearly is underwhelming as an OC and his offense is in real danger of becoming not only predictable but boring to its fans. Wheaton has nearly twice the receptions (73) of the next closest WR (J-rod at 34). The most dangerous TE in the conf has a pedestrian 31 catches for a pedestiran avg of 8 yrds, the same reception total as one J. Jenkins (who???)? This is an OC that doesnt know the meaning “spread attack”. I do not recall Obum having any issues with dropped balls (Cooks, yes). Obum averaged 18 yrds per reception on a WHOPPING 8 receptions so how can we base his effectiveness? Keep in mind, gents, this is the same OC who had his RB run 33 carries vs FCS Sac St. OBTW, the next closest runner was QB Katz at 4 rushes.

I see CBS Sports Jerry Palm has made early Bowl Predictions. 8 Pac-12 Teams go to Bowls.Colorado WSU, UCLA, and OSU will be out looking in. Boy how OSU and Rileys stock has fallen so fast. Wow BobbyD keep up the good work.

open up the play book. cooks, wheaton, obum, bishop and a slew of youngins comming up. make the defense defend the entire field. that would also help the run game.

a good suggestion elsewhere (Angrybeavs) is to put Gwacham at TE and create mismatch in coverage, where his height and leaping ability would be difficult to defend. That would also allow for more of the talented WR’s to get on the field at the same time….Nahhh, too creative – who on OSU coaching staff wants to be strategic?

He’s kind of lean. He wouldn’t be a great blocker. Now a slot back, that’s a possibility.
