I’m sure BeaverDon will post soon he disagree’s with the dates that Riley has chosen for spring drills?

I have no opinion on the dates selected but would have taken an announcement that many of the sessions would be closed to the public as a positive sign. Closed sessions would convey a sense of seriousness and change on the part of the staff. Just symbolism.
Good Luck, Beavs, for a safe, productive, and true TEAM building spring.

Thanks for the vote of confidence rodent, but I’m not going to comment. The number of practices is ruled by the NCAA, and there are only so many dates available. I’m more interested to see if Riley can come up with winning game plan to beat the powerful Nicholls State team in September.

BDC’s latest Orange Perspective left alot to be desired. The priorities for Game-Day improvements seemed well out of order. Fans want an exciting intro and higher production value during the game not after it. They also want an open Truax for pregame that can make Game-Days a major league event and help build a winning profile.

OS,
While I agree with you that there are things that could make game day more fun, really all that they have to do is WIN.

Honestly alot of game day rinky dinky events can be offered and a few people might be appreciative of them, but the pall hanging over the program with all of the horrible and dissappointing losses these past three years makes any effort to come up with pickyuni game day attractions a waste of time and money. Unless Riley can somehow right the ship don’t waste our precious funds on worthless events. Lets put funds into hiring a better coaching staff. As regards spring practice, a warning to fans who want to watch the practices: last season with almost zero cars in the vast Reser parking lot next to the stadium I was about to be ticketed for a parking violation by some young student clainming he was a parking enforcement guy. I will never watch another spring practice at this college because of that.

Really?….You park in a permit area and expect not to be ticketed?…….Students have to buy permits, why should you park free? What is it 5 bucks to park?……

You’re right, I learned my lesson. Honestly at 4 pm on a weekeday parking in the lot where there are several thousand empty spaces and perhaps 20 cars, I guess I thought they would let it go so people might come watch the pathetic practices.

I’m not sure that the practices are what is pathetic in this conversation….

DILI – I dont think there is a person out there who does not feel it justified to be ticketed just because there are “several thousand empty spaces”. Been there, got ticketed. Its an annoyance but I get the reasoning behind it.
A couple notable Spring questions that Riley needs to be held accountable:
1) What changes will Riley make to his practice routines to ensure his team is ready to start fast in the Fall? Clearly the past decade has taught the most ardent fans that Riley’s teams come out of the gates too slow.
2) Knowing that now the majority of teams within the conf operate a spread style attack, what areas of the defense will Riley – Banker emphasize for improvement?
3) Offensive predictability was one of the single biggest hindrances in 2011. What scheme changes will Riley – Langs implement to help diversify what has become a painfully predictable attack?
4) Will there be a bonafide starter at the RB position or will it be a platoon of backs?
5) With several noted off-season player misconduct, what stance will Riely take for the players impacted? Going forward for future misconduct?

Five good questions, Reno; based on comments by MR and staff I think one can anticipate answers to most of them.
Question 1: Cliff has written about changes on off-season conditioning pointing out that there is an effort to cut down on slacking off, it is the players fault for not showing enough “want to”.
Question 2 and 3: the answer here is likely that players skills have improved; nothing wrong with the schemes – just the execution.
Question 4: Of course there will be claims of an open competition and statements that the best back or backs will play, just depends on the players.
Question 5: Depends on the specific case.
My question is, will Riley go beyond his recent mindset of looking only at the existing skills of returning starters and emphasize the need for motivation, discipline, and true open competition to each member of his staff? It is too simple to just blame the players for poor execution and inconsistent effort. IMHO this staff needs to focus on fundamentals, motivation, and true team first spirit. Being willing to bench slackers is a beginning (see for example “false start” Remmersl).
The increased experience of Mannion, Wynn, Creighton, and Unga together with the change in personnel on the O line due to graduation should lead to a six win season without any changes on the part of the coaches. Sadly, this will be viewed by many fans as an acceptable improvement over the 2011 debacle. Much more is possible if MR will only show some passion, focus, and willingness to think outside the box.

Don’t expect any changes. There was no key coaching changes as far as scheme goes. You have seen the best these coaches can do aready. We just have to hope the current players make monumental improvements and the new players bring some surprises. When I say monumental I mean out of this World.
