Three future Oregon State football players are involved in the Les Schwab Bowl, the annual Oregon high school all-star game, scheduled for 6 p.m. June 23 at Hillsboro Stadium.
All three are on the South team. They are OL Isaac Seumalo (Corvallis High), LB Joel Skotte (Mountain View) and walk-on DB Blair Cavanaugh (Corvallis).
The gymnastics team continues its strong start to the season with wins over UC Davis and Sacramento State on Friday. The Beavers return home Friday night for the annual Pink Out meet against UCLA and California.
The wrestling team is at Iowa State on Sunday for the first part of the national duals. The Beavers are seeded second. Check out some notes.
I’ll update this blog with a link with how it come out. Here’s the meet story.

Why play in this meaningless game? Watch Seumalo get hurt. Such is the luck of the Beavers!

Beav women sweep in the state of Washington. Perhaps Craig invites the amazing Mr. Rueck, who just over a year ago was holding open tryouts for his destroyed team, to sit next to him during the game tomorrow and tries to pick up some of the finer points of BBall coaching and game management!!!

Huge game for OSU Hoops at 2:30 today. We have to beat Washington if we want realistic odds to make the NIT. There needs to be a bit shorter leash on Starks and more effort to find Collier and Brandt on the blocks. Jared has a great opportunity to separate himself from Wroten and take the lead in the Pac-12 POY race. Need a win today!

With this weekends performance has the Men’s Basketball team blown their chance for a NIT berth?

Sadly a POY is unlikely to come from a bottom tier team barely over .500.

Good call, ORB! Rueck is proving to be one of the best coaching hires in the Bob DC era. He is doing much more with the talent/depth -deficient team that he inherited just 2 seasons ago. I know this defies conventional thinking and has bitten the Beavs in the behind with extensions to Riley and Wagner, however Rueck IS the exception to the rule. He built a dynasty at George Fox and has taken the Beavs women team beyond expectation in just 2 seasons. A NIT bid should certainly be in the cards if the they finish the last part of the season with a winning record. That is a HUGE achievement for a team that barely could field a starting 5 after the Wagner defection. Time to get an education, Robinson, on how to overachieve!

Please don’t undervalue Craig Robinson yet. While I agree that Rueck is a great addition to OSU, he benefits from a less-pronounced talent discrepency between women’s teams in the Pac-12. Next year Robinson finally has his first team full of his own recruits. As long as Cunningham stays, that team could prove to be quite good. I believe that if Robinson stays at OSU, he will get even better recruits.
Back to your main point, I agree that Rueck would likely be a terrific long-term hire.

This is year number 4. He has all his guys THIS year. There is nobody, I repeat, nobody on this team from the JJ era. How has Craig done with all his own guys so far? All pretty much agree he has as much talent as anyone in this weak league. How’s that worked out for him in league play?

Yes, this is ALL Robinson’s team now, and he has recruited well. The Beavs lost a couple of heartbreakers, but the losses to ASU and at home to WSU were inexplicable. They have proven they have the talent to hang in with the best and yet are still capable of losing to the worst. Seems like lack of maturity, focus and preparation. There needs to be more emphasis on defense and rebounding – they did a decent job on defense against UW, but if they had played that way consistently they would be contending for the Pac-12 championship right now. If this team gets it together before season’s end, I still believe they have what it takes to win the Pac-12 tournament. The season is not over yet.
Go Beavs!

Most people have Jorge Guiterrez and Jared Cunningham currently leading the race for Pac-12 POY. This factors in somewhat the belief that Tony Wroten and Terrence Ross cancel eachother out too much for either to be the likely winner. I compared stats and Jared is blowing away Jorge in the categories the Pac-12 has always valued most.

Rueck is BobbyD’s only great hire. The rest are, well the jury is still out on Riley and Robinson. By the way the Beavs are done for post season. Robinson has dissapointed. The league is weak this year.

Craig Robinson has good athletes but he doesn’t seem to get their best every game. I think it’s because of his leadership and coaching and we should have seen a leap forward in our program in his fourth year. The season started promising even though it was against weak teams including one DII team. The Pac12 is very weak and we can’t even be in the top half. I’m ready for another proven coach to step in and give us a better chance of winning.
