The No. 9 Oregon State gymnastics team heads to UC Davis today for the first time ever. The Beavers face the Aggies and Sacramento State.
OSU (4-0) has never lost to either of these teams with an 8-0 record over UC Davis (2-6) and 9-0 against Sac State (3-4). They Beavers should handle these teams with easy.
I said that in an earlier sport this season, and we know how that turned out. Can the Beavers gain some revenge on the Hornets for what they did to the football team?
What’s most important about the meet is scoring high. Road scores carry weight in the RQS (regional qualifying score) equation that determines postseason rankings.
OSU, however, is being put in the strange spot of starting on the floor exercise. That’s one of the team’s top events, so the opportunity to score high is taken away since high scores are given out at the end of the meet.
Senior Leslie Mak has 40 event titles, and needs nine more to move into fourth all-time at OSU. Junior Makayla Stambaugh has 27 event titles and ranks ninth. Five moves here into eighth.
Check out my gymnastics notebook in Friday’s GT. It leads off with the development of walk-on Hannah Casey into a key role player, and a look at the scholarship numbers for the team.
Watch Casey on the uneven bars below. This was taken from the first meet of the season.
