The 16-ranked Oregon State wrestling team competes in the Iowa Regional of the National Duals on Sunday. NCAA wrestling is trying to crown a dual national champion with this event moved back late into the season.
It’s about time. Read more about what’s going on in wrestling in my story that ran in Monday’s edition of the GT, if you missed it.
The Beavers are seeded second in the six-team regional and will get a first-round bye. They face the winner of No. 3 Iowa State and No. 6 Wisconsin.
Iowa is the top seed and faces the winner of No. 4 Virginia Tech and No. 5 Northern Iowa. The winner of the region goes on to National Duals Final Four. That event will be held Feb. 19 at a location to be determined.
Heavyweight Clayton Jack remains ranked No. 5 in the country and Mike Mangrum (141 pounds) moved up to No. 4.
Other rankings are No. 17 Taylor Meeks (197 pounds), No. 18 RJ Pena (157), and No. 16 Scott Sakaguchi (149).

You have to give credit to Zalesky for what he’s done to bring the program back to excellence.
Go beavs.

We’ve come some distance with Zalesky, he’s done a great job, but we’ve always had a strong tradition with wrestling at OSU. It was a sad day when U of O dropped their wrestling program for women’s badmitton, those were some titanic dual meets when we battled the Ducks. Those days are missed.

Agreed. Zalesky has the wrestling program in a solid place, but it has traditionally been strong at OSU.
Also, in the past decade, many college wrestling programs have been dropped, so the rankings might not be as impressive when you factor in the total number of collegiate programs.
