I heard Thursday that any news about the Oregon State football team hiring a new DB coach won’t happen until next week.
Top candidate Rod Perry and his wife are touring Corvallis the next couple days.
The Portland Tribune came up with the figure of $200,000 a year for two years have been offered to the 22-year veteran of NFL coaching.

Thanks for the update Cliff. I like the experience, but concerned about being out of the college scene for so many years. Is the 2 year contract shorter than normal? Or is that standard for new staff?
Any information about getting a LB coach ( taking away those shoes from Banker) or moving Langsdorf to a different position ad Riley or someone else being OC?

Assistants usually get 1-year contracts. In recent years some high-profile ones get two-year deals. OSU has given 2-years to Locey, Banker and Read over the years.
And, no, Langsdorf is the OC and Banker is the DC/LB coach. No changes.

I like where this is heading. It’s hard to imagine a guy with 22 years of NFL experience not being able to help the DC and the defensive players.

Let me pose a question to those who think this is not a good hire (yeah, I’m talking to you so-called “OSU supporter”). Do you think high school players go to college to become accountants or NFL players? Well, if they aspire to become a pro football player, I’d speculate that they might like to be around a guy who was a 4th round draft pick, a 9 year NFL player with two Pro Bowls, and 22 years of NFL coaching experience for the next 4 or 5 years. I’m thinking that guy has a pretty good track record and resume and must’ve been doing something right for the last, oh, 35 or 40 years. But that’s just my humble, uninformed opinion.

For being so uninformed, you bring up some very logical points. The more I think about this hire the better i feel about it.
I too feel this would be a coaching upgrade. I’m sure he’ll be able to figure out howhere to recruit. Can’t wait
for spring ball. GO BEAVS!!!

Wet, I truly hope you’re right…on paper he comes with some good credentials…I hope he can adjust to the college game which is vastly different from the pros. The schemes, alignments, the speed of the players (slower overall) and of course the immaturity and inexperience of the kids will be an adjustment.
The size/length of the proposed contract is refreshing and a step in the right direction. I hope he turns out to be a great fit and doesn’t get frustrated by our DC Banker. We need help!

Langsdorf is STILL the OC?? One of the worse offense teams in the county and still OC that’s disappointing.

I agree! Langsdorf and the Beaver offense was horrible these past 2-3 seasons, absolutely horrible! At any other college, the OC would be replaced with that kind of performance, just not at OSU. We must love misery, and redundantcy?

*Redundancy.
Freakin smartphones are challenging to type on! About the topic of the article, I think Rod Perry is an excellent hire for OSU! Say what you will about his age, his experience speaks volumes. Go look at the coaching staffs in the SEC, age isn’t a priority, experience is! Traditionally, even when OSU had an outstanding defense, they were not very good defending the pass. They were highly ranked both nationally and in conference against the run, but they were mediocre at best defending the pass. OSU can use all of the help they can get defending the pass, and getting the defense off the field on 3rd downs! Recruiting more speed would help too, but solid technique and being smart can go a long way too.

I love the potential hire of Rod Perry, he will make a difference, there is no doubt. I used to love OSU fans because they were so supportive, when the football program and baseball program started having success. But now with the new “I know everything attitude” we get with “angrybeavs” and “beaverbyte” and you see it in the posts, WHAT IS HAPPENING PEOPLE? Just relax and everything will be fine, and be thankful we are getting better as a football program with Rod Perry and Mike Riley will get us through, we have great young talent.
