Oregon State AD Bob De Carolis posted another one of AD Reports here.
He answers some of the questions the athletic department continually receives. The funny thing is all those questions are recurring questions I get, so check it out.
The item to highlight is football game start times. A third of the people want night games, a third afternoon and a third morning. (I vote for the morning of course.)
De Carolis reminds people that start times came from TV and the desire to be on TV for exposure. However, with the Pacific-12 Conference TV network with all games on TV more start times will be announced in the summer.
So hip, hip, hooray.

No anger here maffu, just amusement, and credit to Bob for doing a great job of picking out the “most asked” questions. I can only assume he just doesn’t get asked about the state of the various sports programs, esp. football. Obviously he gets many more inquires about a sign on Gill and the volume of the speakers at Reser than he does about the various teams. Keep the answers to those tough questions comin’ Bob. Hopefully Beaver fans will keep lobbing enough softballs your way and you can keep avoiding all the “60 Minutes”-type queries. Why, just the other day I was thinking back to the late forties and early fifties when I started attending Beaver games and they did have a sign listing coming events on Gill. Why they no longer have one is of great concern to me, much more so than the state of the FB and men’s and women’s BB teams.Toooooooo funny!! Howeever, probably not as amusing as those who are now going to rip me for stating the obvious. Not one question about any of the various teams? Please.

BDC again shows why he is out of touch and should retire and focus on his health. He must think we are stupid to think those are the questions we most often ask.
And Cliff, while you may get those questions as well, I am quite confident those are not the most important or urgent or especially not the most pointed ones you get.

the only question he answered that i honestly think he’s asked frequently is the marketing of OSU, and possibly rebranding…the other questions had to be a joke

Did any of you folks read the words that said “Part 3″?
And did any of you read the one called “Part 1″?
If you had read “Part 1″, you’d observed that the very first section (2nd paragraph) is an acknowledgement of the frustration of the 2011 football season. He then goes on to talk about some reasons for optimism (i.e. Mannion’s development, our terrific young DEs, increasing attendance) within the football program.
As much as some of you don’t want to accept it, De Carolis is no dummy. He knows that since 2009 the program has been slumping. He even knows that prior to 2009 there was ample frustration about the program’s tendency to start slowly. He also gets that football is the driver of the athletic department, and that, if 2012 is another down season (read: no bowl game) there will need to be changes on the coaching staff. The first step would be significant shuffling of the assistants… and following that… a change at the top.
But I don’t even think he needs to put pressure on Riley. I believe that Mike Riley would do the above ON HIS OWN regardless of the ADs position.
Of course, that’s just my view. There’s no anger here, either, wcjr… although there is probably a hint of righteousness that none of you gave BDC credit for addressing the very issue you claim he didn’t. Not because you’re mean… not because you’re bad people… but just because you (in my view) tend to be a bit reactionary, you focus on the negative, and don’t seem to get the “big picture”.
Also, please know that I do not expect what I write to change your view.
Have a great day!!!

Of course I read part 1. He uses all of one sentence to acknowledge frustration with last season, brushing it aside as quickly as possible. If you were good with that then fine. I would have preferred a bit more discussion even though the subject is very unpleasant. I fully admit I get more frustrrated than most because I’ve been living and dieing with the Beavers longer than most on this blog and it’s been since my freshman year since we’ve been to the Rose Bowl. Also fully agree that it is only a game which I take much too seriously. Guess that’s what happens when you spend your first 22 years in Corvallis with the Beavers being the most important part of your life, at least for me. Have a fine evening.

maffu72-
we all get it. you have a man crush on riley, langsdorf, banker, and BDC. no need for your endless war and peace lenght defenses of them. you sway no one. you understand little. you get presented with facts and stats and come back with the same old lines over and over.
this bores me.

MAFFU – If the Beavs somehow have another sub .500 season, will Riley make that critical decision to change his coaching staff? His offense the last 2 years has finished 9th (in Pac 10) in 2010 and 11th in 2011. I am hoping that this trend is simply due to a high turnover of upper classmen, coupled with a poor recruiting efforts to replenish depth. There is no excuses in 2012. Riley has had 2 years to fix whatever shortcomings he had with depth depletion. Another abysmal finish on offense and Riley simply must make a change. Mike Belloti saw his offense getting stagnant after years of staying status quo. Subsequently, MB had the stones to bring in a virtual unknown -not some crony of the coaching staff- in Chip Kelly to resurrect his offense. I only hope that Riley can do the same if his offense struggles for a 3rd consecutive year.

46-47 after 11 years in league play maffu. Look what Kelly and Harbaugh did after just 3 and 4 years respectively. Riley haters? We just want what’s best for the program and that is not a below .500 record after 11 years. We know Mike is going nowhere. After all, your man BDC gave him an undeserved extension like he did all the other coaches whose extensions were unwarrented(Craig, LaVonda, Jay John). Pat is the only coach of whom has earned his extension. Yes, BDC indeed has the athletic department well in hand. Don’t count on any changes after another disappointing year. After all, how many D-1 schools can you name whose complete staff, including the unqualified OC, have returned after 2 years at 8-16. I certainly don’t know of any.

Remember Reno, when you mention no excuses you are talking to a guy who even came up with some after the Sac. St. game. After all, if not for Agnew’s fumble near the goal line and Romaine’s shanked kick we win by 10! I believe that’s how he put it the other day. It matters not at all that we should have won by 30 and those two plays shouldn’t have been of any consequence.

LOL. No apologies necessary, friend. The Sac St. was an absolute train wreck, in my opinion and was simply a microcosym of the ineptude of this coaching staff. Beavs came out as flat as they usually do on a non-conf opponent during the first month into the season. Agnew had a ridiculous 39 carries. Just think about that: 1 RB had 39 carries against an FBS school. The play-calling was so “imaginative” that the culimination of Langsdorf’s decision making was either to run HB left….or HB right. Langsdorf must have really thought to balance out the offense in the ASU game because he had a redshirt fresh, making his 1st road start in a hostile setting like Tempe, AZ, throw an unfathomable 60+ attempts and virtually abandoning what was a productive running game. Sorry, no passes are given for this level of putrescent play-calling.

Tonight is Step 1 in our quest to sweep the WA schools at Gill. OSU needs to grab the lead early and sustain it through to the end. They should be able to. OSU is very tough at home and will look to have fun tonight with plenty of run and gun and high flying action.

Maffu, you would support Riley even if xxxxx. You are incompetant in being objective and seeing reality. Riley and his gang of imbecils has literally brought the football program to the rim of the toilet seat, and it it is just about to do drop down the inside of the bowl into the morass. I imagine you will be following it all the way down into the sewer.
