Another big weekend for the Oregon State football team recruits is coming up in terms of volume of visitors.
There are 10 visitors planned on campus, according to Rivals.com. However, seven of them are already committed to the Beavers. They are:
OL Chase Eldredge
DB Chris Miller
WR Zach Robinson
OL Isaac Seumalo
LB Joel Skotte
TE Dustin Stanton
DT Calvin Tonga
Some of these guys are making their first visit to campus after committing such as Tonga and Robinson. So it will be interesting to see if the cold, wet Northwest scares any of them away.
Also of note is Seumalo being on the list. (Like he needs a visit.) Some folks in cyberspace think he’s headed to USC after visiting the land of sun, palm trees and starlets.
However, word on the mean streets of Corvallis said he just took that trip to take the trip, which is very common for athletes. Maybe it was also a way of reconnaissance for his dad, OSU DL coach Joe Seumalo.
Another interesting thing is three-star recruit Caleb Smith is supposed to visit this weekend (again) and decide to stay with the Beavers or change his commitment to UCLA or Arizona State.
The three visitors this weekend who are not committed anywhere are three-star DE Nate Iese from Elk Grove, Calif., DE Pasoni Tasini from Wailuku, Hawaii and three-star DB Chris Young from Arizona Western College.
OSU is loaded in with players in those positions, but as noted in a previous blog coach Mike Riley always finds room with attrition and greyshirts.
Four-star DB recruit Devian Shelton from Inglewood, Calif., will visit Washington this weekend, according to ESPN. Shelton was recruited by former DB coach Keith Heyward, who took the same job at Washington this month. Shelton opened up his recruiting after Heyward left OSU.
Three-star DB recruit Kentrell Brice is also looking around. He’s visiting Ole Miss this weekend, according to Scout.com. He visited the Beavers last weekend, and might not have like the distance from his home in Louisiana. And he was in a snow storm in Corvallis.

BDC better not screw this up.

LOVE that they are talking about this again and that Riley sees the benefit. Let’s hope he and Tinker win out because BDC still sounds like he’s bucking for an endorsement deal with Werther’s Originals.
The Vatican embraces change faster than that guy. I don’t get it.

Completely agree. BDC’s job should be on the line.

Cleveland Wallace is also now being recruited by USC and plans to consider a visit there. Ruh-roh. Devian Shelton claimed he really enjoyed his visit to Nebraska and noted their Academic All-America success. Any more thought, I wonder, of the Beavs purusing DT help? Seems like this is an area the Beavs have woefully neglected this year. I mean, Tonga may be able to step right in but my goodness where in the world is the depth needed? You’ve got 3 DT prospects listed on Rivals without offers to date: Kenny Mack (6’3, 315 lbs, 4.95 40), 2 star DT Zaheer Webb out of WA (6’3″, 320 lbs) and UT DT Shad Ennis (6’3″, 275 lbs). Any one of those guys should be offered as they will instantly likely be better than any DT we have on the roster. Mack could fall over on the opposing Center and be better than what we have in the middle.

USC won’t offer a scholarship to wallace, they’re not even sure they want a second DB in this class because of limited scholly’s

RenoNVbeavr,
No reason to offer those guys who are seriously interested in OSU and have no other offers. They can walk on….

Aaron – Its possible that any of these kids could walk on. However, prospects from out of state this option seems more likely. Why wouldnt one of these prospects of any girth walk on to one of their local state colleges. If these were in-state prospects I would think that option were more likely. Unless Zaheer Webb from WA wants to enter the Beavs engineering school, why wouldnt he elect to walk on at UW or WSU (if the option existed). The same could be said of Mack or Ennis. Just saying…

If Isaac comes out and reaffirms for OS following this weekend it gives us a huge lift going into Feb. 1. If he goes to USC and joins the scholarship challenged Kiffykins, he gets one year of BCS games (maybe), and then he’s out of the will and will spend holidays being shot at in gangLAnd.
Of course there’s waffling and gamesmanship, these are kids who are being chased by grown men who depend on them for their living. We’re Oregon State, and we’re going to do great.

I don’t see how Seumalo can go to USC…if he asks his dad, (which I’m sure all kids do) his dad better say OSU is the place to go! He HAS to say OSU is the place for him!
If by some chance he goes to USC, then you might as well fire Joe Seumalo because he’ll never be an effective recruiter for OSU if his own kid doesn’t even chose us.

I think it is awesome Gary Payton is flying up for this game with all the recruits there. Can’t wait for him to close on Shelton for us as we beat USC!
Pick the teams in college and the Pros that you want Tinker to take inspiration from for OSU’s branding:
