Two DBs from Louisiana verbally committed to the Oregon State football team without a visit this week, according to Rivals.com.
S Cryil Noland and CB Kentrell Brice from Ruston, La., are teammates at Ruston High. They were planning to attend Louisiana Tech, but changed their mind.
Noland is a 6-0, 193-pound, three-star athlete. He’s ranked the No. 29 prospect in Louisiana. Brice is a 6-1, 178-pound, three-star athlete.
GA and S coach Mitch Meeuwsen saw their video and showed it to WR coach Chris Brasfield and DB coach Keith Heyward, and that started the recruiting process.
Both plan to visit the Beavers on Jan. 13. Noland was in Oregon in July for the first “The Opening” camp at the Nike Campus.
Noland told Rivals.com that they are both solid commits and don’t plan on taking any other visits.
OSU now has 20 players in the 2012 recruiting class and six DBs with these additions.
Check out Noland’s highlights above, and Brice’s below.

Look good to me…..what about the defensive line?

As already written, not a priority this year. Maybe a late JC picked, but we’ll see.

Cliff, I know what you’ve written – and thanks for that. Many of us, me included, see it as more a priority than what Riley is communicating. Remember, Riley is the guy who dropped the game to Sacramento State – and after this past season and his sticking with Langsdorf as play caller – I have absolutely no faith whatsoever in anything he says or does. Riley is a has been and if we don’t pressure him to turn it around the status quo will become the norm. I hope he does find a way to turn it around. He’s just completely lost my respect and enthusiasm.
Also, his boss(DeCarolis) has turned out to be one of the most unengaged bosses there is. He’s withdrawn (probably due to his own health issues) and doesn’t seem engaged anymore either….

Would you have called Riley a has been a couple of years ago? Just wait and see. If you are a real oregon state fan then you would’ve seen the progress they made through the year. There are many young and talented players, who will be better next year. We WILL go to a bowl game next year.

Yes, I did a couple years ago. When he first got here I was not enthusied and after the re-hire – and after the 2005 season I wanted him out. This is not new….things relented a bit between 2005 for a few years, but Riley had the Rose Bowl in his grasp and choked over and over.
Sticking with my comments, period.

Well I guess Chris would know our needs more than the coaches Cliff. The comments about BDC are stupid.

reserrodent-
why bash chris. its obvious DT is thin. these coaches you speak of just went 3-9 and the team was terrible against the run. he has a point. just because there is a desenting voice doesnt mean the voice has no merrit. add factual arguments against his or just leave it alone. anyone can say “that’s stupid” and move on.

Say what you want….doesn’t change the fact that the team stinks, Riley has dropped two Rose Bowl chances to the Ducks. I think your comment is pretty stupid as well. Good for you that you do not agree.

Cliff,
It looks like the beavs have between 2-5 recruits to pick up yet. What holes are you hearing might be filled yet?
Cliff Kirkpatrick says:

Technically, the Beavers are five over the 85 scholarship limit. However, normal attrition and greyshirts can even that out.
I don’t think OSU wants to get too many more commitments because most guys, unless there’s an academic situation, don’t want to greyshirt.
As for holes, there are none. You can says DTs are needed, but unless a JC DT comes along, they are not going to get a HS one.

I think it was assumed that Fred Thompson would be at least 2nd string and part of the regular rotation. With Fred gone there is a now gaping hole at that position and there should be a sense of urgency to fill it. I agree that a HS player may not suffice, but Riley and co. need to be serious and active about filling this hole with a JC player and not just wait for a “JC DT to come along”.

Cliff – Also, on Rivals 1 JC DT -Kenny Mack- is listing the Beavs as his #1 college choice but, incredibly, the Beavs have not offered him. Okay Beav fans…Mack is listed as 6’4″ 315 lbs and runs a 4.95 forty. Uhhhhhhh I would be throwing the guy an offer anytime, Riley. That size/speed differential is big league measurables! No one on the Beas current roster could top that.

No reason to offer a guy that has no other offers and wants to come here to play anyway.

Cyril brings to mind former Beav, Brandon Browner. The guy looks like he has a 7 ft wingspan! Brice looks like he puts a little extra nasty when he makes a tackle. Good pick ups and nice work, Cliff, getting this posted so quickly.

I like taking the best players available but the lines are clearly a problem. Do we have any prospects targeted??? 2012 looks like the 3rd rebuilding year in a row to me. ( that = sinking ship )
The O and D lines don’t just get bad in one year, why has this not been a priority before things got desperate???

Just an aside, I saw this quote from Robinson and thought it was refreshing.
“What wasn’t in sync was the start of our game, just like on Thursday,” he said. “I’m going to take the blame for that. I’ve got to go back to the drawing board and figure out what I have to do to get this team motivated to be as good at the beginning of the games as they are at the end of the games.”
Don’t think I have ever heard a football coach say this after 8 straight slow-start seasons.
