The annual look back at the top 10 stories the Corvallis Gazette-Times covered at Oregon State, voted on by the sports staff, ran in Sunday’s edition. Check it out here.
There are many football-related stories, since football always draws the most interest. However, there are some hoops, baseball and gymnastics stories.
It was a rough year for the Beavers with the loss of Fred Thompson and the poor showing of the football team. However, there were some positive stories from the other sports.
One story that didn’t make the list that I did vote for was the ground breaking on the track. I was under the impression that track is a big deal in Oregon.
Oh well, check out the list anyway. Are they in the right order? Did we miss something?
One story that made the list was the no-hitter by LHP Josh Osich. I’m highlighting it here because I stumbled on this video on Youtube. Relive his ninth inning at UCLA.
Merry Christmas.

I would have thought that OSU football “staying the course” with their current coaching staff would make the Top 10. The Beavers have been on a slide since 2006 with decreasing returns of wins with 10, 9, 9, 8, 5 and 3. No changes???

How about Casey falling off his roof……does O S U not pay him enough to get a roofer.
Wow….that could have been a disaster. You are one lucky dude Pat.

It appears that Mens Basketball, Wrestling, Gymnastics and Baseball could have great seasons with great headlines in 2012!
Unfortunately, I think 2012 for OSU football will be a repeat of this past 2011 season. I see another sub .500 month of September, maybe 1 non-conference win, a pathetic offensive line, a defense that allows too many points and won’t force enough three & outs, another bowl-less season, (A possible Kraftfighthungerforkidswhocantreadgood Bowl, which is basically a waste and is worthless, I’d rather OSU stay home than make this embarrassing Bowl) and a 5th consecutive loss in a row to the *ucks, more horrendous one dimensional play calling, poor execution, missed opportunities, a team that is painful and unentertaining to watch, too many close but not enoughs, and a season full of excuses, excuses, followed by more excuses, etc….
I really hope that I’m wrong, but I doubt I will be. Prove me wrong Beavers!!!

Wait a minute. I thought I was the only one out there that sounded negative from being realistic. This is a different staff than ’97. Thats why I have concerns whether this staff can turn things around. My wife and I have been Beaver fans since ”75. She bought me 2 Duck t-shirts for christmas. I said 2 Duck shirts? She said, well we have to be Duck fans this bowl season. Crap, have the Beavs. hit bottom yet? I hope so soon.

That’s funny, My wife bought me a nice bright red Wisconsin shirt! I’m a Wisconsin fan this bowl season! A true Oregon State Beaver fan would NEVER wear a *uck shirt, E V E R. You sir, have hit rock bottom. I’m just sayin!
A *uck shirt for me would be used to start a really warm fire.

An *uck shirt is worthy only of wiping the dog doo off my shoes.

Cliff, Forbes ran an article about the “Greediest” football coaches in the NCAA. I think the analysis was done by comparing the average salaries of other coaches at the school compared to the football coach and their respective win record.

Many of the coaches listed have been fired/relieved of their duties. Seems like an interesting objective analysis to me.

OSU4Life, thats a good idea about the fire. We can start the fire under the coaches rearends and see if that helps.

Wait… did we vote for these stories? Or did a handful of staff who are enamored with big media sports vote? I think Cliff has a decent perspective about the Olympic sports since he covers them, but who else on the GT/ADH staff knows they exist? And why blame “Oregon” for how that staff votes?
Always bookmarked… driven by many times… just waiting for completion so I can take the kids to an event… any event….

I think Craig Robinson has done alot to restore excitement to the OSU Hoops program. He has been able to recruit higher quality athletes and fully accepts responsibility when performances do not reach expectations. This year should be a blast to watch and next year looks very promising as well. Once we get the basketball practice facility the program should be able to sustain at a higher level.
To preview Thursday’s Pac-12 opener against the Huskies I interviewed UW media for insight.
