The Oregon State football team needs a running game after an average of 69 yards a game the last five games.
That simple statement leads into my main Thursday story in the GT. It’s the latest in the season series on what the assistant coaches do.
This one is on RB coach Chris Brasfield. He’s a first-year coach still learning the system. However, he’s having fun working with four players who get playing time.
Here’s a link to my latest oddball Q&A. It’s on the No. 5 ball carrier, Ryan McCants. A lot of folks root for McCants because he’s a senior, big, fast and overcame a knee injury.
It’s too bad he didn’t stick because he’s a great talker. As a preview, some times he listens to some head banging music, and he’s afraid of scary movies. Check out my favorite slasher star and to a classic hard-rock song for October.
Here’s a link to my notebook, leading with an update on RB Jovan Stevenson and his sore knee.

This should help motivate the Beaver football team! It’s payback time! http://www.thenewstribune.com/2011/10/20/1872049/mizell-has-no-regrets-about-late.html

Riley thinks it was just neat watching Mizell playing some hard-nosed football and just “having some fun.”
Right?
This kind of poor sportsmanship warrants an immediate suspension from the league. You can’t have players bragging about cheap-shots, trying to hurt other players or trying to start fights. But the issue would only be forced if OSU brought it to the attention of the league and told them that it needed to be handled by their office or by our team… their choice.
Since we all know that will never happen, we’ll be watching more of our kids getting hurt in some neat football this weekend.

Somebody should lay him out early to set the tone.

No “hip hip hooray” for you. That is not a very “neat” comment, plain and simple.

Benny B-
funny stuff. imagine kevin frahm’s worthless arse climbing onto the top of the wall infront of the student section then flying elbowing MR in the back of the head……..entire team and coaching staff just shruggs their shoulders.

cliff,
if the mannion thing is this staff sticking with the young kid to help the future no matter what, why are we playing any seniors at all?
bench frahm, mitchel, collins, JR, the 3 “starting senior linemen” and any others i missed. Lets make this truley be what you, buker, and many others are hinting at and scrimmage against real opponents for the rest of the season.
why only single out one guy for the future betterment of the team? sit em all i say.

I would certainly suggest that once the team has lost its seventh game.

I remember looking for Riley after the Mizell tackle of Rogers, and when I found him on the sidelines the had no reaction. None. In fact, Mizell didn’t get touched by anybody on the Beaver sidelines. If I was Rogers I would have wondered who had my back, because it didn’t look like and coaches or players on the Beaver sideline did. AND instead of tossing Mizell all he got was a 15 yard penalty the officials should have tossed him.

I can’t believe I am going to go to this game.
I expect the cougs to convert on 3rd down via penalty or QB scramble. I expect one team to come out fired up and ready to play… guess which one? I expect the offense to be predictable. I expect Riley to make a key poor coaching decision. I expect to miss FG’s and have a bad punt. I do not expect to execute in the red zone. I expect to turn the ball over. I do not expect to make adjustments during the game. I do expect to hear Riley say “we should have done this or that” after the game.
I expect to lose!
Boy have things changed. Even in the midst of the 28 years, I still had hope and always thought we would find a way to win. My Orange colored glasses are fading and the reality is I don’t expect this team led by Riley and the current coaches to ever turn this around. Hopefully I am wrong, but I’m affraid we’ll be hearing the same excuses again next year.
