Starting RB Malcolm Agnew (hamstring) was listed at out for Saturday’s game at Arizona State, Oregon State football coach Mike Riley said after Friday morning’s walkthrough.
Terron Ward will start in his place and rotate with Jordan Jenkins.
OLB Rueben Robinson will start in place of regular starter Michael Doctor for the second game in a row, Riley said, but Doctor will play significantly.

Doctor should start and play most of the snaps. He is much faster and actually tackles. Is MR right in the head?
0-4 here we come. Stevenson should also be starting. Did they watch the tape of the last game? Ward sucked!
While I’m bitching, if it was so obvious that McCants was not going to cut it at RB, why didn’t they move him to DE
or LB. Oh yeah, we have soooooo much depth we can afford to have a big, fast guy like that ride the pine. Poor use of players and negligent OL recruiting has doomed this season and next. I’m having flashbacks to my days of watching
Joe A’s pathetic squads as an undergrad.

Maybe McCants didn’t want to move to LB or DE. Did that ever cross your mind? Or is it just easier to blame everything on the coaches?
Remember Lamar Herron(sp) started at Safety and got benched for Al Alfalava. Was a great returner and had the size and speed to play either RB or LB. I believe the coaches gave him the chance to change positions he didn’t want to and he transfered.
Everyone wants to blame everything on the coaches, and it easy do that right now. However, not everything is the coaches fault.

Stevenson and Doctor should be starting ahead of Robinson and Ward. Mike Riley is a head scratch personified.

Whatever. I don’t care anymore. I have only myself to blame for even paying attention after the Sac State game.
Hoops starts in two weeks, and I won’t have any seniors or “experience” coming into the game to dash my hopes of a win… like last year. Things will likely not go south in hoops. But, if it does, I wonder if everyone will be as kind to Robinson as they are to Riley. Or if he gets to a higher level this year and next, will we be all over him for a backslide?

I simply cannot believe Robinson is playing, much less starting. He hasn’t hit anyone in two years, and his lack of hitting
is only exceeded by his lack of speed and awareness.

Stevenson only 7 carries 48 yards in 3 games Ward & Jenkins the rest. The 3 Rbs 54 carries for 112 yards!!! Are there any Questions? !!!

Robinson has no business starting. I like Riley, i really do, but his decision making this year is puzzling. the deal with handling the suspensions, the Katz debacle, the running into the ground of Agnew (33 carries on a kid with a history of hamstring injuries), the stringing along of McCants until the bitter end then placing him as the 4th stringer…..This is unlike him. He is normally of sound mind. But not having the Dr. out there will hurt. This kid is our future at OLB, not Robinson. Arent we going with a youth movement to get these kids seasoned? Then why in the hell is Robinson starting. He should be on the bench. I love the Beavs and will always root them on. But Riley is making it harder and harder to be a fan of his. This isnt about being a faiweather fan, i am not one of those. Through thick and thin, but his decisions are putting the Beavs in a very bad position. This hurts the team. I understand and agree with talk about replacing Banker and Langs, but if decisions like this continue i may have to rethink my defending of Riley. Mike Leach is still unemployed and i am sure he’d like the opportunity to coach a Pac-12 team….could you guys imagine what Leach could do with all the talented WR’s we have!!!! Wow, wouldnt that be something?

Aaron you are right on the money. Don’t forget blaming the kids for the losses. Maybe MR is developing dementia?

I understand the value of experience, but the only experience guys like Pankey and Robinson have is experience at sucking at football. There HAS to be a threshold of competence before experience comes into play, right? Right??
These personnel decisions are frustrating beyond belief. I’m not excited about Ward, but mainly he’s just tentative and jittery. Maybe he improves? Still wouldn’t start him but I see hope. Robinson though….hooray for no run defense.

As could be in this situation, so often a young player who is more “athletic” and capable of big plays is also still a bit undisciplined or inconsistent. Disciplined and mistake free characterizes a seemingly less athletic player playing over the more athletic. The trade off typically is fewer mistakes vs less big plays. Big plays fire up the defense and the crowd while mistakes cost points and field position. The Beavs could use the big plays but can’t afford many mistakes right now.
