Pat Casey, left, is the Pac-10 coach of the year

Oregon State baseball coach Pat Casey was named the Pacific-10 Conference Coach Of The Year on Tuesday. He was also selected as the league’s top coach in 2005 and 2006. Here’s the full story that will be in Wednesday’s GT. There are other notes, too.

Players RHP Tony Bryant, RHP Sam Gaviglio and DH Kavin Keyes were selected as first-team all-conference picks.

3B Carter Bell, LHP Matt Boyd, SS Ryan Dunn, LHP Josh Osich, Tyler Smith and C Andrew Susac were named honorable mention.

Casey guided the club to a 38-17 regular season record and 17-10 mark in conference play to finishing in a tie for second in the Pac-10. The Beavers were picked to finish eighth in the preseason poll.

“Any time an individual gets an award in a team sports it’s a collaborated effort with the players and coaching staff,” Casey said. “I’m very appreciated that the other coaches in the (conference) recognize what the team and our entire coaching staff did. Therefore, I’ll tell you that this is an award that goes to everyone at Oregon State baseball.”
