Joe Halahuni, the starting TE for the Oregon State football team, decided to have surgery on his injured shoulder today, according Twitter accounts of his friends, such as former OSU player Aaron Nichols.
Nichols wrote: “the Tank is getting some repair work done today, shout out to Halahuni87 best of luck with surgery.”
Halahuni is in San Diego to meet with San Diego Chargers surgeon Dr. David Chao. Halahuni was advised to have surgery and went for a second opinion.
The estimated recovery time was four-six months, which puts the senior back ready to practice in the middle of the season.
Halahuni was injured some time during the season, but doesn’t remember a specific incident. He thought it would be better by the spring, but it became worse.
That leaves one TE with playing experience on the roster in Colby Prince. Connor Hamlett and Tyler Perry are up-and-coming redshirt freshmen.

No, he already did. No sixth year since he has had four years to have an opportunity to play.

I thought there was still a medical hardship waiver or something for this situation? It is just difficult to get if you have had an elective redshirt year?

This comes up with every injured senior. If you have redshirted you can’t get a sixth year. Sixth years come if you lose two complete years, not nearly two.
The NCAA wants to you to have four years of opportunity to play. If you volunteer (or coaches volunteer you) to redshirt, that’s one year.
