Oregon State starting QB Ryan Katz continues to heal from a fractured wrist in his throwing arm suffered during the Civil War.
I saw him at a player organized workout and he was throwing passes with his left arm. And he was doing a heck of a job.
Don’t worry, that’s not what it has come to. He expects to be cleared to throw with his right when spring practice begins March 28.
Katz didn’t partake in the 7-on-7 drills when some zip on the ball was needed. He was the center for the QBs. Those left-handed throws were done during a warm-up drill.
Many of the guys look bigger after their offseason training. On this day, strength coach Bryan Miller worked their agility hard.
On the baseball front, here’s a link to my story in Sunday’s GT about OSU’s doubleheader sweep of Hartford. They play another doubleheader at 1 p.m. today in Goss Stadium.

Can he throw at all with his right hand? This is the last thing we needed. How does Mannion look?

I am not worried about either of Katz’s arms. I am more concerned with the maturation in his decision-making. Can Katz take whatever progress he made in Year 1 (starter) and translate that into improving his efficiency in the pocket and making key 3rd down plays to keep the chains moving. More so now that Quizz is gone and James doubtful to return, Katz has to step up his game considerably. As for Mannion. Keep an eye out for this guy. All indication is he is the QB of the future. He may actually unseat Vaz as the backup to Katz.

Mannion looks strong. He’s considered the future of the QBs.

Katz did OK last year, being a sophmore and getting the crap beat out of him.
What’s the status of James Rodgers? I heard a few weeks ago on one of the sports radio stations (can’t recall which one) in town that it was looking around 10% chance that James would be able to return. We’ve heard little to no news about him. I hope that the cheap shot didn’t cost him his career.
I also can’t blame Quizz for leaving. After watching his brother get beat up – and him getting the same fate over and over again, you have to wonder. The Offensive Line was so so bad last year.

No news on James Rodgers because there is none. He had surgery. Now it has to heal, and then rehab. It’s a process.
He’s not expected back full strength at the beginning of training camp.
