There were more people than usual for an Oregon State football team walkthrough Friday night in the Truax center. Family and friends were in for Senior Day.
OSU went through a fast one-hour workout. It was very crisp. Then they were off to a hotel in Albany to get focused for Saturday’s Civil War.
The Beavers were sporting those “Giant Killers” shirts I mentioned earlier in the week.
Check out the below video of coach Mike Riley talking with the media below. The clip starts right after he says DT Brennan Olander will play off the bench in Saturday’s game.
There was an interesting vibe on campus today. ESPN activities make a difference, but you can say there’s a lull before a storm. It could be an upset, or a blowout. I’ll be active on the blog and twitter.com/cliffgt all day, so check it out.
There’s going to be a military jet flyover at about 12:19 p.m. before the Civil War game, according to Oregon State.
If you want to be part of the crowd of the ESPN “College GameDay” get down to Oregon State’s MU by 4:30 a.m. It goes on air 6-9 a.m. If you don’t want to get there that early there will be room, you just can’t get that close.
I’m predicting an old-school rumble between the Beavers and Ducks. It’s rumored that the Oregon band will be there.
Here’s a link to what’s going on Saturday as far as festivities. Media drinking hole central will be Flat Tail Brewing on the river. See you there.
Phil Steele released his All-Pac-10 team. TE Joe Halahuni, CB James Dockery and DT Stephen Paea are first team, while RB Jacquizz Rodgers, OT Michael Philipp and LB Dwight Roberson are second team.
C Alex Linnenkohl, CB Jordan Poyer and S Lance Mitchell are third team. WR Markus Wheaton, DT Brennan Olander, CB Brandon Hardin and LB Keith Pankey are fourth team.

Who decides if the band can be there. Seems like letting the opponent have a huge band in the end zone is an advantage.

Michael Philipp on 2nd team? He has played horrible all year. Wow. Did Phil Steele actually watch a game this year?

And yet he has been the best of our linemen. Imagine how very good he might be if he wasn’t blocking for two?
I’m not going to say that Philipp wouldn’t be a better guard than tackle. But I can remember all the misses he has had this year… mostly because they’re really bad. Those misses total less than Remmers’ holding penalties, Ellis’ whiffs/3 or Johnson’s tripping his own players (or not being there when Philipp was trying to block two or more defenders on his own).
Steele actually has it right with this one. I knew some malcontents were going to tee off on this as some pretense of knowlege. I’m here to cut it off right now.
Michael Philipp is not as good as he can be, and he played on a pretty poor O-line this year. But he has played well enough to deserve recognition from thosse who have probably watched every one of his games six times just to catch what every player on the field was doing at every moment.
It amazes me that there are still people out there who don’t know that such a thing as DVR’s exist. We’re sitting here talking about a guy who has miles of actual tape in the house, and we forget that the average fan can have it all as well.
