Snow blanketed the area so the Oregon State football team’s Tuesday press conference was a low-key affair.
Check out the above video coach Mike Riley talking about his team and Stanford. Check out the below video of DE Gabe Miller talking about Stanford. Here’s a link to find all the stories in Tuesday’s GT.
“I have faith we have learned and grown,” Riley said. “The simple point is we have to get better this week. We are playing a very good football team. It is really important we have nothing but have a tremendous fire to practice and get better to give ourselves a chance to win. Then we have to prove we can do it week to week.”
Starting OLB Keith Pankey (sprained ankle) is listed as doubtful. Keo Camat and Cameron Collins will fill in for him.
Starting OT Michael Philipp (sprained ankle) is day-to-day. Wilder McAndrews will be prepared to play for him.
The reason for this year’s success of P Johnny Hekker downing his punts inside the 20-yard line is he’s doing an Australian flip punt. That’s where he punts the front end of the football, hitting the tip, and spinning it backward. That way the ball deadens.
The funniest part of the presser was QB Ryan Katz showed up in a yellow Kobe T-shirt. (OSU wants to promote only sponsor designs only. And there was a matter of the color.) Someone gave him a jacket before going on camera. The problem was it was too tight. It looked like a muscle shirt.

He's still inconsistent, but I like what Johnny Hekk brings to the table. Maybe I'm just too enamored with a former all-state quarterback as a punter, but I love that option… and he has been awesome at pinning opponents deep this season. Thanks for the insight on why that's been successful.
Also, for those of you who constantly ride Mike Riley about not showing enough fire when it comes to riding the officials, please be sure to read this week's Forde Yard Dash on the espn website. I realize it's mr. Forde's opinion, but it paints an interesting picture of Bo Pelini… and how his ref-baiting is backfiring.
Food for thought.
I hope the team doesn't miss Pankey too much. Maybe Collins can spy on Luck… he's got the necessary wheels to do it.
Need the best game yet to earn a W – Go Beavers!!!

Glad to see there is no talk of Pankey's achilles. A sprain is bad enough but another achilles injury would just be horrible. Here's to a speedy recovery for Keith.
