The Oregon State football played an inspired game and dominated Southern California on Saturday night. If the Beavers did this every game there’s no reason why they couldn’t have been undefeated in the Pac-10.
The Beavers beat USC 36-7. That was the second biggest margin of victory for OSU in the series.
Check out the above postgame video of CB Jordan Poyer. C Alex Linnenkohl is interviewed below.
Here’s a link to my main story in Sunday’s GT. Let’s just say that was an unbelievable turnaround. Here’s a link to the report card. Here’s a link to the sideline report/notebook.
If you like photos, here’s the GT’s photo gallery. Here’s the sidebar on the defense.
· Oregon State snapped its first two-game losing streak in Pac-10 play since 2007, and kept from its first three-game Pac-10 losing streak since 2003.
· The win gave Oregon State head coach Mike Riley his 69th at Oregon State, inching him closer to the program record of 74 held by Lon Stiner. Riley is also now three shy of tying Cal’s Jeff Tedford for the most among active Pac-10 coaches.
· The win marked OSU’s third straight in Corvallis over the Trojans. USC has not won a game at Reser Stadium since 2004 and has not won in the state of Oregon since 2005 at Autzen Stadium.
· The Beavers are now 34-8 over their last 85 games when committing fewer turnovers than its opponents.
· Oregon State scored at least 20 points against the Trojans for the sixth time in their last seven meetings. OSU had scored at least 20 in eight of the previous 67 meetings.
· The Beavers held USC to just seven points, the lowest point total in a game since defeating the Trojans, 3-0, in 1967. The 29-point win was the second-largest for OSU in the series’ history, trailing only the 32-point win (38-6) in 1914, the first-ever meeting between the teams.
· Justin Kahut’s first-quarter field goal was the team’s first since he hit a 23-yarder in the first quarter against Arizona on Oct. 9. It had been 19 quarters since that field goal.
· Justin Kahut also hit on field goals of 35 and 38 yards, respectively. It’s the first time OSU has three field goals in a game since Kahut had three against Oregon in the 2009 Civil War.
Oregon State Individual Notes
· Jacquizz Rodgers tallied 128 yards rushing on 26 carries on the night, giving him 3,714 yards for his career. That moves him into third in Oregon State history, surpassing Steven Jackson, who had 3,625 yards from 2001-03. Rodgers now trails only Ken Simonton (5,044 yards from 1998-01) and Yvenson Bernard (3,862 yards from 2004-07).
· By surpassing Steven Jackson, Jacquizz Rodgers moved into sole possession of 11th in Pac-10 history, and later 10th, when passing former USC running back Ricky Bell (1973-76) who had 3,689 yards. Next up is No. 9 Anthony Davis (USC, 1972-74 – 3,724 yards).
· Only former OSU running backs Ken Simonton and Yvenson Bernard have played this century and reside in the top 10.
· By finishing with 128 yards rushing, Jacquizz Rodgers now has 19 career 100-yard games for his career, tying him for second most at Oregon State with Steven Jackson and Yvenson Bernard. Rodgers has three 100-yard games against USC.
· By connecting with Jordan Bishop for a touchdown in the fourth quarter, Ryan Katz has completed at least one touchdown pass in all 10 games this season. Katz has completed at least one in 11 straight after throwing one TD against BYU in the 2009 Las Vegas Bowl.
· Stephen Paea forced a fumble in the fourth quarter, giving him a school-record eight for his career.
· Justin Kahut’s 34-yard field goal in the first quarter gave him his 243rd career point, moving him into fifth in school history. He surpassed Yvenson Bernard, who had 242 points from 2004-07. Kahut ended the game with 12 points, and now has 252 for his career.
· Jordan Poyer’s second-quarter interception return for touchdown was the first score of his career and his second touchdown of the season. It was OSU’s first INT for a return since Keenan Lewis did so against California in 2008.
· Jacquizz Rodgers had two carries of 20 or more yards in the first half (a 23-yarder and 25-yarder), giving him 38 career offensive plays of 20 or more yards. Twenty-six of those 38 plays have been rushes.
· Jacquizz Rodgers’ second-quarter touchdown was the 46th of his career and first since Oct. 30 against California. It also made him the third player in school history to tally 300 or more points for his career. The others are Alexis Serna and Ken Simonton. Rodgers has an even 300.
· Johnny Hekker’s 74-yard punt in the third quarter was the second-longest punt in Oregon State history. The longest was an 80-yarder by Coquelle Thompson in 1930 against Washington State.
· Johnny Hekker had three punts downed inside the 20, giving him 56 (53) for his career, and 24 in 2010.
· Brandon Hardin finished the game with 11 tackles, which is a career-best.

A Great Game! But I do wonder…. the two games we've dominated, we've knocked out the #1 QB. Also, the wins have come against teams that didn't have a running QB. So although we looked great, a win is a win, and beating USC is GREAT, I wonder if we can handle a pistol or a spread or whatever it is the ucks run?

Rushing the field after beating a team that is in the middle of our conference?
Come on.
I'm not sure if this erases the stink of UW, UCLA, WSU but the entire team did pretty well, and it was nice, it was GREAT to see some fire and some pretty good execution.
Long way to go to become a team capable of beating either Stanford or the Icks.
Go Beavs.

I agree trademum1, we do have a long way to go if we want to beat Stanford or Oregon. BUT this was a great step!
and yes, rushing the field was ridiculous. Come on students! Wait for the Civil War!

Come on Corbeav and Trade , The team needed this win , not just because it kept us in the running for a bowl game but most importantly it was needed for morale after all that they have endured in past weeks and especially after last weeks loss. We in Beaver Nation think we were let down and depressed after the Cougar loss , but it was obvious from all that was said during the week by coaches and players that they felt it even deeper than any of us could expect to . Our boys were carrying a huge weight on their backs and last night they shook it . There may not be a Rose Bowl or a Pac Ten title in our future and when all is said and done maybe not even a lower tier bowl game , but last night was the Beavs Rose Bowl and for all intensive purposes it was ours too. I don't blame fans for rushing the field last night , Beaver Nation was happy for our guys , proud of them and what better way to show it ? Alot of stress was lifted from thousands of shoulders last night and rushing the field was a stress reliever. I wish I had rushed the field myself. I think we sent a message to Oregon last night as well . We cleared away a team early that the Ducks couldn't shake until the fourth quarter and don't go using the excuse that the Trojans lost their starting QB and therefore this was a win made much easier. Matt Barkley didn't go down until just before halftime . I didn't see him getting much done up till then either. Come on guys , yea , they have some work to do yes , but give them credit for the outstanding work that they did last night . Don't be like the Duck fans who are always " they did great , but they can do so much better " This team took a big step forward last night and we should be celebrating that , not nit picking everything , jeez . We will be rushing the field after the Civil War . I can feel it now.

It was an uninspired rush on the field, and well it is fun to do…
I wish Stephan Paea would get interviewed or more accilades, he was dominate against USC, they had no answer for him at all. He was a big reason for the Beavs win!

Keith Pankey left the game with a knee or leg injury. What is up with him? I have not read anything about his situation.
Also, what was up with Riley and the unsportsmanlike penalty call? I loved it. The man finally got off his rocker. Fired us all up.

Finally ! Mike Riley has emotion . Even he didn't see it in himself but its there Mike and I hope we see it more. The team might have went into this game inspired and fired up , but I believe you kept that emotion going by challenging that play , by doing so you gained the respect of your team and they kept playing for you , maybe that's been the missing piece in not being able to finish games. You did us all proud Mike

Let the young people run on the field after the game. It's fun. I don't think it means anything more than that. I bet the players enjoy it too.

Anyone who's been even half following the ducks knows that they are not a perfect team , since their conference season started they have struggled to win , been held scoreless by the Huskies in the first half , almost lost to Cal and scored the lowest point total of the season some duck fans will tell you that was because Cal cheated and stopped the game so much with fake injuries that it slowed their high speed offense but Cal , even if it is guilty of that tactic a few times during the game , couldn't do it on every down so they had to have something that slowed the ducks. Stanford and Usc both got out ahead but couldn't hold on , so did ASU . I know alot of you think it's impossible but to be honest , I am liking our chances against Oregon more than against Stanford.
What will win for us though is the Beavs going in with the same attitude that they brought to the game last night. We have nothing to be mad about from last night , so I suggest they be mad about losing the last two CWs and use that to pluck some feathers.

If you look back at this years losses they where teams with mobile quarterbacks or quarterbacks who can run if needed. That seems to be a big problem for the Beavs plus team speed. Motivation alone should provide the Beavs with the daunting task of taking down the Ducks and spoiling their year. The Ducks have kept the Beavs out of the Rose bowl two years in a row and they better remember that.
