The Oregon State football team went indoors for practice on a cold, rainy Wednesday. “We felt we would get more done today than we would outside,” coach Mike Riley said.
Riley wanted to see how the team reacted in the early practices after the Washington State loss. “I thought they had another good day, and we got a lot done,” Riley said. “They worked hard.”
At the beginning of the practice the players were a little more aggressive to let out some steam.
“It’s a result of the situation we are in,” Riley said. “I think the players understand that, and there’s heightened enthusiasm.”
There were some changes to practice with less first-string vs. first string work.
“We want to get as prepped as we can,” Riley said. “We have gone through nine games, so we want to be as fresh as we can.”
MLB Tony Wilson (head) is running and on schedule to be ready to play Saturday. FB Will Darkins (head) is a day behind. He has not run, yet.
“We are going to the wire with it,” Riley said. “I still have high hopes they’ll go.”
If Wilson can’t go, Kevin Unga will just take his place in the rotation with Rueben Robinson.
Clayton York would take Darkins’ place, so the fullback play are not thrown out of the playbook. RB Jordan Jenkins is working as the backup FB and RB.
In a hope to get an excited crowd, OSU is asking for an “Orange Out” of Reser Stadium for the USC and Civil War games. So wear all orange.
And if you didn’t see this in the GT news section, here’s what happened to on 3-point stance Tyler Thomas.

I said I’d use an occasional letter sent to me more. Here’s one that has an opinion different from most of the comments on the blog:
Cliff,
First, thanks for all your work covering the Beavers, and especially the blog. Very much appreciated.
I wonder if you could let Coach Riley know, not everyone in Beaver Nation is upset & calling for coaching changes.
Every Beaver fan was sorely disappointed with last Saturday’s game. But there are quite a few fans that feel compassion for the players — know that they are in a tough spot — and are trying to help by being supportive and positive. These fans believe in the coaching staff, and in the team.
As is many times the case, the vocally negative few get noticed.
Go Beavs!

I can't really believe beaver fans are calling for any kind of coaching change. That sounds like something our southerly neighbors would do. I'm proud of what our coaches have done in the past, and I don't expect that to change in the future. College football has its ups and downs. We've hit a road bump, but I have a lot of faith in our coaches getting it turned around. If not this year, then next year.

You might as well say you love mediocrity then. Mark Banker has proven that he can't stop anything team with a QB that has the "audacity" to run. Our defense is 87th in the frakkin' country right now, dude, and last year we weren't much better. On the other side of the ball, Langsdorf's play calling was uninspired, and Cavanaugh's offensive line played with no heart.
I hate all these warm fuzzy people that buy into this crap. Faith is a respectable quality, but blind faith makes you a fool- and it will lead us right back to the cellar.
Since we'll never see the end of Riley, we fans have every right to be critical of his staff. I hope fans continue to heap their anger and frustration on these men because right now they aren't doing their job.

Cliff , I wonder if watching a video of the 08 win over USC would inspire the Beavs to play hard against them this time and the same goes for the video of the last Civil War victory too , maybe if Mike sat the team down and showed them the videos of those games it would inspire them to go out and play even harder than they did against Cal and tear up the Trojans and the Ducks if your at another practice or interview before Saturday , please suggest it to Mike.

They do that type of stuff regularly.

Quite a few coaches will tell you showing a video of someone else's successes doesn't accomplish anything. The video may inspire the athlete but it doesn't make them a better athlete. The athlete has to want the success from within their own heart.

"Giving less than your best is sacrificing the gift" QB Lyle Moevao!

HAHAHAHAHAHA! Seriously, that is a Steve Prefontaine quote (old UO Runner), who ironically did sacrifice the gift by dying in a drunk driving accident.

I think it is some good words to live by and Lyle did say it too. Sorry if you find it funny that I do not follow running.

I just think it is funny because it isn't his quote, don't give him the credit. That is sort of like giving credit to Aerosmith for singing Come Together, despite it being the Beatles song. You don't have to follow running either, it is a famous quote.

Like I said I have only heard him say it before so that is who I gave credit too. I shouldn't have to apologize for living under a rock. A little courtesy would be nice.

I am one of the guilty ones wanting a coaching change in the past , not Riley per say although I still wish his personality was a little stronger and I disagree that personality is not part of being a coach , but then I have never been one so what do I know ? I Think Riley has done a great job with this team and he brings an excellent past coaching record with him . I still think that the schemes and plays have stagnated and we haven't evolved like teams like the " Gulp " Ducks have but if Mike and his coaches will show some movement towards that and adapt schemes that the top teams have , then I will stand behind them . I think these men have the experience and talent to bring our Beavs up to top ten quality and beyond if they will just evolve and or adapt to the new ways

Joe Paterno has almost the same personality as Riley, and he's done okay. Great recruiting makes personality flaws disappear.

I was shocked to hear that our team was going first string offense vs. first string defense. I had no idea we had a first string defense.

Tyler Thomas peed on the rug?! The rug really tied the room together man.
Do you know Cliff if OSU is still pursuing Thomas's little brother…who also had a scrape with the law back in Kalispell??
Thanks.

Beavers backed off the little brother. He won't be coming to OSU.
