It’s a miserable day at Reser Stadium for the Oregon State football game. It’s cold and wet.

The vibe is just dead. Granted, it’s a game against the lowly Washington State.

The highlight in the press box is the fellow scribes talking to my son, Hunter. He’s job shadowing me for the day. Everyone things he’s taking over for someone on the GT staff.

Anyway, it has been a quiet week leading up to the game. Feel free to comment or ask questions. The blog will be updated throughout the game.

The Beavers are wearing all black. What happened to orange and black? Or even black and white?

First quarter
Beavers start out in hurry-up but first drive stalls. Cougars playing dirty from the start. They have nothing to lose and are out to hurt people.

The defense on its heals on first drive. There were several missed tackles to Cougars could make a long drive. Bonehead penalties push them out of field goal range.

The way the game is going, I think a brawl may happen.

OSU couldn’t do anything with the ball, and was stopped on downs. WSU marched down the field to the 1-yard line and is about to score.

Second quarter
Two tries, and the Cougars are up 7-0 with 14:17 left in the half.

Beavers get a big break with WSU fumbles the punt return, but Justin Kahut misses a 35-yard FG wide left. It was a bad snap, but he’s just not having a good year. That’s 3 of 7 this season.

Cougars march up the field again. They get to the 1, and QB Jeff Tuel is shaken up. Three plays with the backup and WSU punches it in. Cougars lead 14-0 with 4:51 left in half.

Beavers had a drive going, but QB Ryan Katz throws a pick. Beavers hold.

Cody Vaz goes into the game. Katz puled. He couldn’t do any better. Another punt.

Halftime. Halfway through this stinker. My son just summed it up. The Beavers are playing badly.

Riley said Vaz went in for Katz because Katz was rattled after the INT he threw.

Third quarter
Cougars come out and score quickly on first drive and are up 21-0. My son just asked me if this is a blowout. Yes, it is, against a team like this.

Beavers turn the ball over on a kickoff return. Cougars bounced a ball off the the front line and recovered the ball.

DT Stephen Paea forced a fumble on a big hit. Beavers turn that into a 25-yard TD pass from Katz to Markus Wheaton. WSU still lead 21-0.

Fourth quarter
WSU responds with a 37-yard FG, after a long drive. Game, set match?

Beavers respond with a quick TD. Katz to Wheaton. WSU still up 24-14. There’s just not enough time to recover.

Heading down for interviews. It won’t be pretty.
