DE Jaswha James verbally committed to the Oregon State football team this week, according to Rivals.com. He’s a 6-foot-2, 220-pounder from Inglewood High in the Los Angeles area.
Read more about James in my story that will be in Saturday’s GT here. I interviewed his high school coach about him.
Arizona, Arizona State, Hawaii and Utah have shown interest in him. Only the Beavers and Warriors offered scholarships to him.
He’s not ranked by Rivals because of an off junior season, but is playing well now with 37 tackles and seven sacks in seven games. Check out his highlight video above.
This is the 12th known verbal commitment for the 2011 class, and fourth DE. The others are Brandon Bennett from Spring, Texas, Dylan Wynn from Concord, Calif., and Na’Alii Robins from Honolulu.
OSU appears to be trying to replenish the DL, but it still needs DTs. That many be addressed in the JC plan.

Unless the Ducks are interested in him too or other top 25 schools just more of the same….. typical Beaver recruits. The fact he was offered a scholarship only by OSU and Hawaii says something right there and Rivals.com does not even rank him!. You can get lucky some of the time and the Beavers have but this year more then ever shows the lack of quality athletes with speed and great football skills and recruits that can come in and are good enough to start. OSU needs to better their team with quality and faster athletes and really be steadfast in going after them and bringing them to OSU.

Beaverteeth, Did you happen to read the paragraph that said Jaswha isn't ranked by rivals or scout because of an off Junior year? Meaning he didn't play his Junior year, meaning he didn't have a highlight tape until the very end of his current senior year! I remember Quizz was only a 2 star until OSU & Texas A&M offered him a scholarship, then all of a sudden he was a 4 star! Watch the tape, watch how he plays the game, look at his size/frame, you can't coach that. So far OSU has 4 verbals from the DE position, which is great for depth! Now if they can officially sign, that would be outstanding! Also, if they can sign more players at the DT & OL positions, OSU will have a great looking recruiting class for 2011!

Here we go again. Fan/expert sitting at home in front of the laptop is suddenly a recruiting expert and knows more than our coaching staff.
People put waaaay too much stock into recruiting rankings and who else offers a kid. Have some faith that our coaches actually know what they're doing (top 3 finishes in the conference the past three years).
It has been shown that recruiting rankings don't necessarily correlate with wins. The "experts" are often wrong about how good a player is/will be.

I guarantee if beaverteeth writes a check for $500,000,000 (give or take a hundred mill or two) and becomes OSU's sugar daddy the Beavs will catch up with the ducks in recruiting in 5 years or less. The added bonus is beaverteeth can dictate who's hired, fired, and what uni's they wear.

Hey SnohoBeav and OSU4life! Where have you guys been four the last ten years? The Beavers have finished 7th, 8th or 9th in recruiting year in and year out in conference while finishing somewhere in the mid 45-50s nationally on a yearly basis. Now Beavers do more with less right we all know that. Tell me that recruiting in the top five like USC or the top ten nationally like the Ducks eventually puts you in a position to win a conference championship or a national title. This ability of Riley to develop players is very commendable but it has shown to be costly by losing games early. Do not misunderstand me I am not a Duck fan I hate the Ducks but all one has to do is look to the south and see where they are going. They are so loaded with talent and speed it makes one wonder how was this accomplished. I say great recruiting and better coaching. The Ducks have been able to land number one recruits every year at some position. The recruiting at OSU has got to get better or the same results will happen again….. low tier Bowl games.

too many people like your buddies above beaverteeth are satisfied year after year with 7-5, 8-4, etc. they consider a bunch of two and three star recruits a successful recruiting class. They are content with the state of the program and don't seem to be concerned with taking the next step as UO has done. you are pretty much dead-on, the truth is not pleasant.

This is some great and positive news coming in the wake of all of the negativity surrounding the OSU program this week! Jaswha James is a great verbal commitment for OSU! He has quickness, gets off of his blocks, tackles well and he has a motor that doesn't quit! It is HUGE that OSU recruits well at the DL & OL positions for the future! This is a step towards the right direction. Welcome to Beaver Nation Jaswha! Thank you Cliff for providing the video along with the information, it helps us fans feel connected!

I like this guy better than that Bennett and Robins guys. He looks super athletic almost a hybrid. He might even end up at LB.

I tend to agree with beaverteeth. I first moved here in the early 80s and so fell in love with the area and people that I became dumbfounded that the football program sucked. Mind you, I grew up near Nebraska and was forced to watch/listen to big red crap ALL the time on Omaha TV. I cheer wholeheartedly for UWPN (University of Whoever Plays Nebraska). Have you ever been anywhere near Lincoln? I would consider it an extreme punishment by the gods should I end up living there ever again. OSU played there once and came back, along with a beatdown, the revelation that it was the facilities stupid. OK, it has taken some time, and they may not be U of Nike standard but they are vastly improved. And I'll give that there's nothing else to do in Nebraska but I'll argue, people here can be just as nice and passionate as they are. So, I'll end with 'what's the next step' so the coaches can just add water to more kids and play at the top without the underlying fear that it could crumble every year?
