The Oregon State football team faces lowly Washington State at 1 p.m. on Saturday in Reser Stadium for Dad’s Weekend. The Beavers need this win to have any hope to be bowl eligible.

Read more about OSU’s situation in my Tuesday story in the GT. To follow up on that, here’s a bowl situation story. I talked with the Holiday Bowl and Alamo Bowl folks Saturday in Rose Bowl.

Let’s put it this way. The Beavers can reach the Holiday Bowl with six wins. That story shows why.

Here’s a link to the Washington State scouting report to show what the Beavers face. The numbers are just brutal for the Cougars.

Safe passes
Quarterback Ryan Katz has a 3-to-1 ratio for touchdown passes to interceptions thrown. If he keeps that through the season it would tie the best mark by a coach Mike Riley starter at any level, and that includes the NFL and CFL. Last year’s starter, Sean Canfield, has the record with 21 TDs and seven interceptions.

Special team stars
Three reserve defensive players are in competition for the most special teams tackles. CB Rashaad Reynolds, linebackers Devin and Kevin Unga are tied with 10 each.
