SEATTLE — What a dramatic finish in the Oregon State football team’s 35-34 Pac-10 loss to Washington on Saturday night.

The Beavers tried to win the game by going for two points in double overtime. TE Joe Halahuni just couldn’t pull the ball in with tight coverage.

“We thought we had a shot to win it,” coach Mike Riley said. “We thought we had the right play. It just didn’t work out. ”

You can talk about the defensive issues, the lack of blocking and QB Ryan Katz throwing a three picks. It wasn’t a pretty game. However, there was a ton off effort the last three quarters.

“It was such a bad start that we couldn’t do anything offensively and they were going up and down the field,” Riley said. “Then it flipped around and we got some moment and made some drives. And our defense picked it up and it became a football game.”

The Beavers rallied from 21 points down. That was a dramatic turnaround by the defense to decide to stop a powerful offense. There were turnovers and punts forced.

RB Jacquizz Rodgers played a tough game, and earned every tough yard. He gained 140 yards and scored three TDs.

“We did a good job getting the running game rolling after the beginning,” Rodgers said. “We just have to finish that game off. The defense played their butts off.”
