Glad to see we're getting another guy on defense. What positions are the coaches aiming for now? It seems we have an army of wr's and qb's, but not enough OL, DL, and LB players. Any word on recruits there?
Also, I haven't been at practices so I have to ask…is our offense practicing any pitches or sweeps? It seems we have some really good blocking from TEs and WRs and it would make sense that we go to the outside some more to help Quiz get to the open field.
Also, why does every hand off to Quiz seem so delayed? It looks like every running play is a draw. Makes no sense.

Beavers got after the best guys available. Last couple years there was a focus on DL and they didn't pan out due to eligibility.
To answer the last two questions, OSU is a zone blocking/running team. That means the RB reads how the blocks are going and goes to the hole. That's why there's a delay and most runs around between tackles or just off tackles.
OSU typically doesn't have the speedy outside runner to do sweeps and pitches: Quizz, Bernard, etc.

Maybe not sweeps, but a pitch (especially when the defense is bunched up near the goal line) would be very effective. I'd take my chances with Quizz on the edge and one cut between him and the endzone.

It's actually not the RB's who need the speed on a power sweep. It's the OG's. But we don't trap or pull in our running game. Like Cliff said, we're a zone blocking scheme. Those aren't actually draws that you're seeing. Those arecalled stretches because the QB is stretching for the hand-off while the RB is moving toward whatever hole he sees. The power sweep can go with a toss, because the RB isn't reading the hole… he's looking for the ball first.
I should say that we do have some draws built in. So you are seeing some. But those are only after the QB looks the safeties off the run.

715 pm PST. I'm with you Cliff. I live on the East Coast now, at least it's on espn so I don't have to try and figure out if I get it or not. FSN NW games are hit and miss on my provider (Verizon FIOS).

Damn that is a late start for us East Coasters. Oh well, Go Beavs!
