This was supposed to be the week the Pacific-10 Conference made a statement nationally. It was a mixed bag with some decent wins, near misses and bad losses.

During the offseason a lot was made about how wide open the Pac-10 race will be. That’s code for a so-so conference.

1. Oregon (3-0): The Ducks are firing on all cylinders. Granted they had two cupcakes earlier and down Tennessee team. It will be interesting to see how they do down the Pac-10 stretch.

2. Arizona (3-0): That was a good win against Big Ten team Iowa. The Wildcats will be a battled tested team compared to Oregon. It should be an interesting game between the two.

3. Stanford (3-0): The Cardinal keeps on going. Right now it can beat anyone. It rounds out a solid top three in the conference.

4. Oregon State (1-1): A win over Louisville was a good first step, but there’s a lot to work to do on both sides of the ball. When it comes together this could be a good team.

5. USC (3-0): The Trojans keep winning but are not a powerhouse. They’ll give several Pac-10 teams problems in the first of two years as spoilers.

6. Washington (1-2): Nebraska is pretty good, but the Huskies were not ready offensively or defensively. So much for QB Jake Locker’s Heisman Trophy run.

7. UCLA (1-2): Coming back against Houston was needed to salvage the season. However, as the Bruins know out Pac-10 games are tougher, even against lower end teams.

8. Arizona State (2-1): After two easy I-AA wins the Sun Devils played Wisconsin tough. If the Sun Devils build off that they could win a few more games.

9. Cal (2-1): Nevada embarrassed Cal. The Beavers are not the only team that can’t stop the option. It was ugly. At least there’s a potent running game.

10. Washington State (1-2): The latest loss was at least competitive for a while against SMU.
