No oddball story lines to look into this week as the No. 25 Oregon State football team plays rebuilding Louisville Saturday afternoon in Reser Stadium.
Check out the above video of coach Mike Riley during his Tuesday press conference to preview the game. The below video is of QB Ryan Katz.
The Beavers are healthy. TE Joe Halahuni (shoulder) returned to practice and considered probable, Riley said.
No lineup changes are expected at any position. That means LT Wilder McAndrews is still the starter over Michael Philipp.
It’s now a three-man rotation at MLB with Rueben Robinson, Tony Wilson and Kevin Unga.
The Cardinals sound like a similar team as the Beavers with the one-on-one pass coverage, planned pressure and run first offensive plan. The QB even likes to through deep.
Louisville rarely play Pacific-10 Conference teams, but successful when it does. The Cardinals are 1-0 against the Beavers and 2-1 against Arizona State.
The Cardinals are 11-7 in nonconference road games, but lost the last two last season to Utah and Kentucky. The last win was in 2008 at Memphis.
There are 25 players from Florida on Louisville’s roster, six from Miami and three from St. Petersburg.
Expect a competitive game, even though the Beavers are 16- or 17-point favorites. Check out the Louisville newspaper columnist writing about the game. Here’s another story out of Louisville worried about Reser Stadium crowds.
Post practice update
P Johnny Hekker and C Alex Linnenkohl missed practice Tuesday due to illness. WR Darrell Catchings sat out due to an eye problem. They are day-to-day with expectations of them playing.
A funny story to this is that when I asked Riley about Catchings he didn’t know what was wrong with him. So he yelled across the field to the trainer: “Barney (Graff) what’s wrong with Darrell?” Graff came over and told him.
What was even more funny was that the defensive players walking by giving their thoughts such as “everything,” “syphilis,” “he lacks hair on (certain parts of his body)” and other things that I wouldn’t put in the blog.

Cliff, what is happening on setting a start time for the Arizona game? Only about 3 weeks out, people need to make plans for that day.

Tell it to TV. Game times are set 6-12 days out depending on the situation.

By the way, I wasn't being snotty with the answer. I hate game times being wrapped around TV whims.

i remember last year i bugged you about the damn start times. They really are a pain in the rear as far as tv nailing down a start time.

As Beaverheart said, "Just a little knowledge of audio equipment and we could hear what they are saying." Either a different mike set-up or an isolated interview spot, such as all pro sports use for post game interviews, would work. Anyone ever hear of a camera tripod, or something set up, as in a designated interview spot. With all due respect, keep the MTV stuff. I'm more interested in at least a minimum of professionalism. I'm not trying to be personally critical, but I believe such should be expected from the Athletic Department.

It’s not the athletic department. It’s me dealing with video, audio while trying to do my usual job of taking notes.

Cliff, It is the Athletic Department. It's all about having the correct venue to be able to audio & video record without the unbelievable background noise. The audio is by far the main culprit.

I hear Texas Tech has an extra media room.
Hey Cliff, maybe you can flip the camera upwards every now and then. Think Blair Witch style filming.

They are right about Catchings. The dude is Mr. Glass. He gets hurt more than my 94 year old Grandma. I hate to say it but its time to forget about this guy. I now doubt he will ever make an imact after a solid Freshman year in 2008.

Some one from the paper to the North, Buker, tried to steal your thunder with the defense talking friendly smack about Catchings. You say the defense said "syphilis" and Buker say they said "sniffles." Next time you guys are in the press box together tell him to get his #@*% together. He needs to get his facts right and acknowledge that you asked Riley the question.

Sound falls apart as the palyers get in there. Movement comes from too much caffine. Also, think MTV style filming.
