Oregon State football coach Mike Riley gave the media some depth chart updates Tuesday at the weekly media gathering. Check out his opening statements at his weekly press conference above.
DE Taylor Henry (ankle) jogged Monday and is probable for Saturday’s game against TCU.
New LB Cameron Collins is being used as an extra LB in certain packages. That leaves Suaesi Tuimaunei and Lance Mitchell as the starting safeties with Anthony Watkins and Josh LaGrone the backups.
OT Wilder McAndrews will start with Michael Philipp the backup. There will be no rotation.
RB Jordan Jenkins is the official third-down backup to Jacquizz Rodgers. Ryan McCants and Jenkins will share backup duties in other situations.
No official decision on who the starting MLB will be – Rueben Robinson or Tony Wilson. Defensive coordinator Mark Banker said both will play.
WR Obum Gwacham will not play as a true freshman. DE Scott Crichton will travel and be ready to play. If he’s not needed, he’ll redshirt.
Check out CB James Dockery and DT Stephen Paea talking with the media below.
AD report
Nearly 27,000 season tickets have been sold. That’s a 3,800 increase from last year, athletic director Bob De Carolis reported on the department’s website. About 4,000 Valley View Level season tickets have been sold compared to the 400 last season.
“I want to thank all of you who have contributed in any way – from buying season tickets to becoming new donors or continuing your financial support,” De Carolis wrote. “It all adds up – so sincere thanks to all of you.”
Prince has done well
West Albany High alum sophomore TE Colby Prince had an impressive training camp and is projected as key offensive player in the future.
“I have been from the moment we got Colby Prince, very excited about him,” Riley said. “I knew he had athletic ability and he’s a tremendously hard worker. He’s one of the those guys you don’t worry about. He’s a good student and does all the right stuff.”
Prince played some in mop-up duty last season. He caught a pass for 12 yards. He’s the No. 4 TE for the two spots, but two graduate after this season. Joe Halahuni and him will be the veterans next year.
“When he was in high school he was a wide receiver and we projected him as an H-back, tight end,” Riley said. “He worked really hard. He’s now 260 (pounds) now. He still runs well and he can catch the ball.”
Katz update
Check out the below video of QB Ryan Katz going into the TCU game. There will be story about him later in the week.

If Prince is as good as advertised that is going to be quite the duo next year.
Cliff, what is the plan with Phillip? Are they going to play him at LT when he gets healthy? or work him in a guard? Or is the plan to redshirt him if possible? It would seem a waste of his natural talents to play him for just a few plays this year.

They'll see how it develops. Will McAndrews stay healthy? Philipp will be the No. 1 tackle off the bench. Then he'll be the starter, for sure, for two more seasons.

Wow, that sounds ridiculous. McAndrews has less game experience, OSU has one of the toughest preseason schedules in the country, and the job is McAndrews' for unless he gets hurt? And Philipp does NOT move to left guard to get the best players on the field?
Its hard to believe that Philipps has missed so much time due to injury that he's somehow behind the other offensive lineman and that putting an "old" rookie in the game improve's OSU's chances for victory.
Either McAndrews is REALLY good, or Riley can't wait to tell a "neat story" about him getting to play his final year after never being able to see the field. I hope he's really good.

seems odd to me when last year it was either start Phillip or redshirt him, now it is play him off the bench? Is the coaching staff not as high on him as they were last year? Has something (Phillips demeanor or actions) changed in this regard?

This is what I'm thinking. Super odd. At least sit down Ellis (who was challenged by Lamb all fall) and put Phillipp at guard.
Makes no sense to bench your best talent unless he's too hurt to play. Bottom line.

The noise is from the pressers next to the lunch hall.
And Riley answered the Philipp question over and over. He missed all of spring and half of training camp. As he gets back to speed, he'll be ready if Wilder gets hurt or can't get it done.
Now it's time to watch the game and see who pans out.

Ok, ok, somebody woke up a bit grumpy. I'll stop wondering about the move. It's just that all the talk about him being an all world 5 star Tackle makes me not want to waste a year if he misses the first 2-4, whatever games.
I was just joking about the free breakfast bar. Having never seen the media room I don't know what the set up is.
Thanks, Cliff for everything.

In regards to the left tackle spot, it may be helpful to remember that Philipp was not pressed last year by someone with a healthy body. If McAndrews would have been healthy last year, Philipp would have most likely red-shirted. Simply because McAndrews is now healthy and Philipp has been hurt doesn't mean that the coaches have lost their mind.

Those Nike uniforms unveiled a few minutes ago are awful. I was looking foward to a cool uni…Nike did it to us AGAIN!!!!! The others are sleek looking and then there are ours.
