It’s game week for the No. 24 Oregon State football team as it makes final preparations for the season opener in Cowboys Stadium against No. 6 TCU.

The Rodgers brothers have a homecoming of sorts since they are from Richmond, four hours away. However, it’s not big part for them. Check out their thoughts about the game in my Monday story in the GT.

They are not the only ones with Texas ties. Special teams coordinator Bruce Read was in the same position with the Dallas Cowboys from 2007-08.

He was let go there as a scapegoat for some team struggles. Read returned to OSU for the third time with coach Mike Riley. Here’s my story from spring 2009 about his return.

As mentioned in that story, Read didn’t want to talk about Dallas then. So I asked him about going back now.

“It’s just a buisness trip for me,” said Read, who has coached all around North America. “I don’t have time to visit anyone I know. If there’s some close, they might visit the hotel the night before. But, for me it’s about the game. I do my best to keep the players focused on the game. Then we get out of there. It’s a quick trip.”

Read never got to coach in the new stadium. He said that won’t interest him on this visit. Maybe later.

“That’s the best NFL stadium ever,” Read said. “But that won’t matter to me. Don’t get me wrong, I love seeing stadiums. If I’m traveling by one that looks interesting, I’ll stop and check it out. But not for this game.”

Now it’s time for Texas music to get you in the mood. Here’s one of my favorites.
