A day after Oregon State starting DE Taylor Henry sprained his right ankle and was carted off the field, he said it’s doing better and the prognosis is positive for a return sometime this week in time for the season opener Saturday.

Henry watched Saturday’s practiced with a boot on his foot, but can walk around without assistance.

“It’s doing better than yesterday,” he said. “Hopefully, I’ll be ready for the game. I’m doing what I can get it better. Things happen in football.”

He was injured making a tackle. Someone came from behind and fell on the pile. His foot was caught and twisted.

“When the trainers looked at it, it was sore but with no swelling,” coach Mike Riley said. “They put the boot on it, and want him to walk straight ahead. Try not to limp, go right over heal to toe. That sounds pretty good.”

As a precautionary move for depth, DT Kevin Frahm took some reps at end.

He was an end the first three seasons with OSU, before making the moved to tackle in the spring.

“That’s an easy move to make,” Riley said.

Collins to LB?
S Cameron Collins took some snaps at OLB in Saturday’s practice. He suggested it to the coaches, and they are looking into it. He may be used as a hybrid or an OLB in the future. He has good size at 6-foot-2, 230 pounds for an OLB, but speedy enough to play S.

“It’s something we are looking to doing,” Riley said. “We’ve had looks in the past with guys who played safety in situations there. We are moving him into that. That could fit into packages. We are trying to get him coached up there.”

Playing hard
The Beavers have yet to break into the full scout team prep. They have been doing some TCU prep work for three days, but still run the first string offense against the first defense a lot.

“That is interesting you notice that,” Riley said. “We are doing more of that. Even scout team stuff, it’s twos against ones. We are trying to keep that speed alive and simulate the plays the best we can without being total scout team. On Monday we’ll start the scout teams. We didn’t want to leave that interaction speed behind us too soon.”

This is another idea the Beavers are doing this year to help start the season faster than usual.
