Starting DE Taylor Henry sprained his right ankle during Oregon State football practice Friday afternoon and was taken away on a cart.
He was injured during a regular play with the full offense against the defense. Henry was helped to the sidelines where he iced his foot. Trainers took him away before practice ended.
“I hope it’s not long lasting,” coach Mike Riley said. “Ankles you never know. It might be three or four days and running full speed again, or it might linger.”
Riley said Henry was positive about coming back soon when he talked with him before Henry was carried off.
“He said he would be all right, but I don’t know if he knows that,” Riley said. “It’s obvious he didn’t walk off the field.”
The Beavers take a hit on defense if Henry is lost for an extended period time. He is expected to be a key pass rusher.
Junior college transfer Dominic Glover would take his place in the starting lineup. Walk-on Andrew Seumalo, from Santiam Christian High, moves up in the depth chart.
“We are trying to build depth at defensive end and not lose it, ” Riley said. “It’s discouraging. We’ll just keep our hopes up that it’s not long term.”
Bishop hurting
Starting slot back Jordan Bishop is the latest receiver held out of practice due to injury. He had a tight back, Riley said.
The receivers just started getting healthy with the return of Markus Wheaton (shoulder) and Darrell Catchings (groin). Wheaton had his best practice of training camp Friday.
“The more he gets to practice, the more we will see that,” Riley said. “That’s the hardest thing with Markus, practice time and chemistry with the quarterback. When that becomes long term he’s going to be exciting.”
Links
I forgot to link my main story in Friday’s GT earlier. It’s a Q&A with special teams coordinator Bruce Read. He breaks it all down for you. Also, here’s a link to the 2-deep of specialists.
Look for the same type of deal in Saturday’s edition with defensive coordinator Mark Banker and then Sunday has offensive coordinator Danny Langsdorf.

After Read's distasterous special teams play calling in last December's bowl game, I hope he is back with his head in the game this time. Having Hekker punt into that wind normal style was a big mistake and it gave BYU great field position each time. Either punt it rugby style into the wind, keeping it low, or don't punt at all. To me, that disaster is all on Reed. Let's hope he does not do that again….

Man, Banker does not sound pleased with the D at all. Let's hope the boys get it going here in the next 7 days.
