Oregon State junior Olivia Vivian won the all-around and balance beam titles at the Australian Level 10 National Championships earlier this week.

Her championship appearance consisted of two complete meets on consecutive days. The first meet was the Apparatus Finals while the second meet was the National Team Finals.

Vivian was stellar in both meets posting the two highest all-around scores of the two-day competition – first scoring 55.250 and returning the next night with a score of 54.350.

She added a national title on the balance beam with scores of 14.275 and 13.900 for a total score of 28.175 – again the two highest scores in the competition.

“Australian gymnastics is very different from what I’ve done in college gymnastics and I was really looking forward to showing the fans in Australia a taste of what I do in the States,” Vivian said. “(Coaches) Tanya (Chaplin), Michael (Chaplin) and John (Carney) have taught me a lot and I apply those lessons into all of my routines and skills no matter what competition I’m in.”

She finished second on the bars with a score of 13.625 and 13.550 for a two-meet score of 27.175. She also finished second on the floor exercise, showing off the AC/DC – Black Sabbath routine (see above video) she’s learned in the U.S., with scores of 13.825 and 13.775 for a total of 27.600.

Vivian, who hasn’t worked on the vault in her two seasons at OSU, was forced to begin training on the vault in preparation for performing in the all-around at the national championships. Vivian’s work paid off with a fifth place finish with scores of 13. 125 and 13.525 for a total of 26.650.
