The Oregon State football coaches wrapped up their second half-day camp Saturday. They also worked and hosted a Nike recruiting camp earlier in the month.

So far there’s one commitment in OG Connor Thomas from Kalispell, Mont. You can read about him in Saturday’s GT here. More should come soon.

“They are instructional camps, but they are obviously used by us as evaluation purposes,” coach Mike Riley said. “What we hope to accomplish is, No. 1 maybe they’ll learn something here for their football career or upcoming season. The other thing is those kids get to be on our campus and work with our coaches, and we work with them. Since we’ve been here, in general, half the guys we sign on signing day have been in one of our camps. So they impact our recruiting.”

The big team camp will be Tuesday-Friday. About 15 teams and more than 1,000 players will be on campus.

“We still get some of the same things done there, but it’s mostly to develop in football so they learn skills and practice techniques,” Riley said. “And they compete a little bit.”
