One of Oregon State’s teams will be honored by the NCAA today for doing well in the annual APR study, which tracks academic success. Turns out it’s the women’s golf team.

Their scores are have been perfect to close-to-perfect since the APR started. That means they stay eligible each term and stay in school and graduate. Now, on to the football stuff.

Preseason honors
Lindy’s Football Preview, which I write for, and Collegefootballperformance.com selected several Beavers for their awards.

DT Stephen Paea was named first-team all-American and RB Jacquizz Rodgers named second-team by Lindy’s. Rodgers, his WR brother James Rodgers, PK Justin Kahut and TE Joe Halahuni were honored by Collegefootballperformance.com.

And OSU is starting the Quizz for Heisman marketing blitz. (Another award I vote for.) If he lights it up against TCU and Boise State, I’m going to consider it.

USC TV
The Nov. 20 game against Southern California will be broadcast on ABC, ESPN or ESPN2 with a kickoff time of 5 p.m.

This is the third nationally televised game on the schedule so far, joining the Sept. 4 contest vs. TCU at Cowboys Stadium on ESPN and the Sept. 25 trip to Boise State on either ABC or ESPN.

Fox Sports Net, which announced seven of its selections for the season, will join the Versus Network in announcing additional televised games June 1.

Alumni report
Former LB Byrant Cornell was signed by the BC Lions of the CFL. He was discovered at a free agent camp in Portland.

Opinion piece
Here’s a link to the GT editorial board’s opinion piece that ran in Wednesday’s edition about the string of run-ins with the law by football players.
