My story on Oregon State DT Kevin Frahm and his moved from DE ran in Wednesday’s GT. I gave him some to time the first half of spring to see how he likes it first. You can read it here.
Teammates think the move was brilliant. Here’s what DE Gabe Miller said about him:
“It looks like, for Kevin, that’s his right spot,” Miller said. “He’s quick off the ball. And he’s giving the O-line a lot of trouble. I think that’s a great group.”
“Kevin is the type of guy who does what he’s supposed to do with a good attitude,” Miller said. “He’s such a hard working guy. He’ll figure it out.”
DT Stephen Paea likes Frahm either giving him a break or working next to him. Paea needs someone who can take pressure off him to do his thing.
“It’s huge,” Paea said of Frahm moving to DT. “He’s going to bring his quickness from the defensive end. That’s huge inside for us with all the stunts we do.”
“His lower body is something else,” Paea said about Frahm’s training. “He power cleans and squats a lot all the time.”
Another thing about Frahm that sets him apart is his intelligence because he’s so well-read. However, he didn’t put up his read-a-thon trophy he won in a competition with Taylor Kavanaugh last year.
When I asked him about that he laughed. “People ask me about that all the time. We’ll see, maybe next year. But I’m not sure I want to put the trophy up for grabs.”
