Oregon State coach Mike Riley caught up with the beat writers and talked about all sorts of things related to the program Sunday night. The following are the main points. More will follow in the week.

The greyshirts enrolling Monday are LB Michael Doctor, WR Kevin Cummings, Obum Gwacham.

DE Josh Kaiwi will attend a JC due to his academic issues.

WR Reggie Dunn and OL Michael Beaton should be around in the spring.

After continually saying he’s coming back next season, junior DT Stephen Paea is sending in paperwork to the NFL to test his potential draft status in April. He should get something back by the end of January and then make a decision to return to OSU or not.

The coaching staff is expected to remain together, but there was a scare.

There could be offseason surgeries, or at least extensive rehab, for S Anthony Watkins (shoulder) and S Lance Mitchell (hamstring) due to their lingering injuries.

Recruiting kicks into gear this week. There are 10 offers out, and Riley doesn’t expect to get them all since the class in about full.

There are 10 known commitments reported through various media outlets and the recruiting services and five greyshirts. There are 12 departing seniors and two more scholarships left by the Krebs brothers for 14 openings.

However, that’s a fluid number. Three more potential scholarship openings could happen with a player who has had long-term medical issues. Two others would be players getting in trouble on the bowl trip.

I asked Riley if it’s RB Ashton Jefferson because I’ve heard strange rumors. Riley wouldn’t confirm but said the perpetrators are out of the freshman class.

The last Riley heard, the Krebs brothers plan to transfer to California.
