Before the holidays hit, here’s an Oregon State football note for a stocking stuffer.
I’ve mentioned in GT stories and on the blog that the Beavers are looking forward to next season because 20 starters return, and the specialists.
They have most returning starters in the Pac-10, followed by Oregon (18), Washington (17), Washington State (16), Stanford (15), UCLA (14), USC (14), California (14), Arizona (13) and Arizona State (nine).
If people believe it or not, having older players in a program makes a big difference in college. It’s not like in the pros where you can just buy free agents in their prime.
Anyway, I’ve shared some music and videos with this season. So here’s some more for Christmas. Happy holidays.
Lets start with Twister Sister’s version of classic with funny animation. And below my favorite Christmas band, Trans-Siberian Orchestra.

thanks Cliff, Merry X-mas to you and your family too. You (again) have done a great job covering the Beavs for us. Appreciate all the hard work you have put in this year. Great job.

Cliff I noticed that Keynan Parker, who I thought was done for the season, caught a pass from Canfield for 4 yards. Do you know if Riley moved him over from CB to WR? Or is he going back to CB in the spring? His speed would be great to have at WR.

Are you looking at someone's state sheet? He didn't play. He was out for the year. Parker is going to stay at CB because OSU needs a No. 3 CB and more for next season. And yes, the WRs are loaded next season.

Yeah the ESPN stats of the game show him catching a 4 yard pass from Canfield. Is there another player that wears the same No. jersey maybe they mixed them up.

I checked the ESPN stats and official OSU stats and Adenji has 56 receptions and 803 yds on ESPN and 57 receptions 807 yds on the OSU site so I think thats the difference.

we are loaded at WR; Bishop, Catchings, Munoz, Wheaton, Rodgers….I know i am missing another maybe two…It would be hard to beat those guys and get on the field regularly. We really have a good bunch of young wr's. But with Tim Clark leaving maybe he could crack the rotation at cb….

So. with 20 starter returning, when will we know the schedule?

The latest out of the conference is that all the schedules will be released Jan. 4. Word that trickled out at the bowl game is that the TCU deal will probably be part of that update. It's that close to being finalized.

According to the Portland Tribune it is Dunn that will be at OSU for the spring and Doctor in the winter. I know there was some questioning about which would be at OSU for the winter and which for the spring so I thought I'd just put that out there.

A belated thanks, Cliff, great job I must say when the final bell was rang you
were pretty much right on for your prediction for the season!! I would be interested in what you think about next year? I am thinking about middle of the pack for the beavs in 10? Losing back to back games to the ducks certainly
is not satisfactory!! Two years running with a opportunity to get to the Rose Bowl!
Can Riley win the big ones?

It's too early to have a good prediction for 2010. Middle of the back is always safe with OSU. It will be a bowl team. How good? There's too much that will happen to say for sure, yet.

Cliff, where do you get 20 returning starters for the Beavs??
We lost 5 Senior starters from the 22, so, to me that = 17. I will give you Catchings to make 18, but who are the mystery 2 extra starters??
You can't be including Roberson/Pankey or even Halahuni + Camp can you?
ckirkpatrick says:

4 offensive line return
1 RB
2 WR
1 TE (Camp is the starter, Halahsuni is the H-back)
4 D-linemen (Miller, Paea, LaGrone, Olander) Terry wasn't the starter at the end
2 LBs (Pankey, however was a starer in 2008 and shared time with Roberson)
4 DBs (Clark is gone, but Hardin was the starter in the bowl game and started three games last season)
That's 18. The thinking at the time was considering Pankey a starter from last year. So there's 19.
Halahuni was added for 20, which is misleading, but OSU uses the H-back so often that he's the H-back starter.
Catchings has never stuck as a starter, so he's not counted.
So it's 18 starters in the specific sense of the word with the loss or Canfield, Adeniji, Peat and Kristick. Or 19 with Pankey, and the stretch for 20 comes with Halahuni.

That's stretching it pretty far in a lot of ways if you ask me.
If you're going to try and sneak Hardin in there as the starter just because he started 3 games, you're going to have to modify a LOT of the other Pac-10 teams lists, too.
I think John Boyett started more games for the *ucks than Ward did.
Heck, if you're going to sling Pankey in there as a starter, you should be counting Catchings as well. He started most of the year in 2007 and I think might have more career starts than Pankey. He certainly has more than twice as many career starts as Hardin.
Beavers lost 5 players who were the primary starters of the starting 22. Adeniji was the starting Split End only because of Catchings injuries, so I'd give you 18.
Double counting co-starters like Pankey/Roberson and Halahuni/Camp is plain misleading.
I agree with not counting Terry, since he lost his job due to performance, not injury, but Hardin only got 3 starts because of Clark's injury. That one is the cheapest of all IMO.
Anyone from the outside is going to say the Beavers are returning 17 starters.
