EUGENE – The Oregon State football team started the Civil War fast. CB James Dockery intercepted a pass on the third play.
The offense turned into a touchdown on a 22-yard drive on a 1-yard TD run by Jacquizz Rodgers. Beavers up 7-0, 11:21.
Oregon runs wild on its next drive. OSU picked apart. Ducks tie it 7-7 on a 1-yard by LaMichael James with 8:14 left in the quarter.
Beavers came back with some deep passing and get a 30-yard FG by Justin Kahut with 5:09 left. OSU up 10-7.
Ducks strike back with a 73-yard TD pass by Jeremiah Masoli to Jeff Maehl. It was a third-and-8 over Dockery. Oregon up 14-10, 3:46.
Offense stalls this drive. No running room and Jordan Bishop drops a pass. A punt is the result. And it’s shanked.
Defense saves P Johnny Hekker and forces a punt to open the second quarter.
Second quarter
Rodgers looks like he’s getting hot. He doing some extra shoving. And it looks like OSU is going to ride WR James Rodgers for all he has got.
Beavers are forced to punt again. The game has settled down. For a while it looked there was no stopping the offenses. When the Beavers pressure Masoli, he doesn’t look comfortable.
OSU driving. Wow, Quizz did one of his cut on a dime moves for 48 yards. Beavers ended up with a 28-yard FG by Kahut. Ducks still lead 14-13, 7:20
Beavers get another turnover, this one off a bad handoff. Stephen Paea get the credit forcing it. Matt LaGrone recovers on Oregon’s 18-yard line. Oregon’s defense holds and Kahut hits a 29-yard FG. OSU up 16-14, 4:30.
The drive took longer, but the Ducks still score a TD. James punches it in from 6 yards out. Oregon up 21-16, 1:19 left in the half.
OSU’s defensive line did a good job pressuring Masoli. He’s a slippery one. Missed tackles allowed the Ducks to keep this one going.
Two-minute drills are OSU’s specialty. Beavers score quick, Sean Canfield to James Rodgers 28 yards out. OSU up 23-21 with 0:14 left.
Some stats: Quizz 9-22 rushing, Canfield 16-21 for 208. Ducks have 96 rushing yards. Masoli 10-15 for 158 yards.
Third quarter
Beavers take the first drive 75 yards for a TD, Canfield to Casey Kjos on a 9-yard pass. OSU up 30-21, 10:51. Quizz continues to amaze with his moves.
CB Tim Clark is down with a right leg injury, maybe the knee. The cart is out on the field to get him. He’s in a lot of pain. Replays look ugly. It’s already in a cast. It got folded under James and Keaton Kristick.
UPDATE: Clark has a fractured lower right leg.
Temperature is now 32 degrees, 27 degrees with the wind chill factor.
LB David Pa’aluhi is down. Looks like a cramp. He’s walking off.
LeGarrett Blount makes an appearance for the first time since the punching of the Boise State player for a 12-yard TD run. OSU still leads 30-28, 5:45 in the third.
OSU comes back with another FG, a 45-yard by Kahut. OSU up 33-28, 2:28.
It is a shootout. James, a 52-yard TD run. Oregon back up on top 34-33, 1:20. Failed 2-point conversion run.
Quarter ends before Hekker can get off his punt.
Fourth quarter
It’s now 28 degrees and the wind chill makes it 25.
Oregon comes back fast with its running game. OSU’s missing tackles. Ducks hit a 34-yard FG. They go up 37-33, 10:13.
It’s time for me to make my way down to the field. The postgame blog will be up late. I have a lot to do for the print before deadline. We’ll be back in the early morning.

D needs to hold the ducks to a fg.

Their O looks good. Beavers couldnt stop them. The Beavs need to play a bit of ball control to keep it out of that offenses hands.

There he goes.
Beavs with tons of penalties just like vs Washington State.
Not sure why they're consistently running routes a yard short of the end zone/first down.

should have run play action on that 3rd and 2. Drop it to Halahuni. I didnt like the call for quizz up the gut. we cant keep getting fg's against the ducks. But at least we got points.

You have to give a lot of credit to Mark Banker and the defense who have
given up 100 points in the last two civil wars, and could not buy a stop. Congratulations, you gave up 30 points less than last year. Horrible defense again.

The Beavers will always be the Ducks little brother. This was again their big moment to prove something to the country on a national stage and again they blow it. The Beavers can never win the big game the one that really matters. Now the Beavers slide way down to another crappy non BCS bowel.

My biggest problem with this game was the (offensive) play calling. We knew we were giving up high 30s on defense and that it was coming via the run.
No establishment of Quiz, no "wild beaver" (i think this would have worked well), etc. The team played inspired and well. If anyone wants to insult that effort they're an idiot.

It's right. The beavs played extremely well.
But sometimes there's just nothing you can do.

Two years in a row the Ducks spoil the Beavers Rose bowl hopes. How many chances do you think the Beavs will have to play for the Rose Bowl? The Ducks recruit better….. I just do not see things changing in the future. I hate to admit it as a Beaver fan but unless the Beavers get the national attention that the Ducks get b
y winning the big games nothing will change.

In the league losses against good teams with good offenses, the defense could never get a stop when needed. The offense scores 32, 36 and 33 and they still lose? They did not win any of their close league games this year because of the defense. In every win, the offense overwhelmed the opponent with it's precision and efficiency in the first half and the defense just had to get a stop here and there to hold the line. Even the rushing D stats were misleading because the Beavers jumped out to large leads and the opponents had to pass more to catch up. The defense created very few turnovers and when you think about how careful with the ball the offense had to be it's amazing the team finished 8-4. The D performance was not unexpected considering how many were replaced, but I personally don't think their was a not a ton of improvement from beginning to end.

The Beavs were doomed by very poor play calling in the red zone
you cannot run Quizz aganst a stone wall time after time
and settle for field goals if you are going to win the big ones!! Canfield was pretty much right on and his passes to Halahuni and Adeniji were absent in the
red zone. The nice balance that was evident in the win over California was
not there last night. Defense once again proved it cannot come up big when it is needed!! Great game by Sean and James!
