Shocking results came out of the weekend’s Pacific-10 Conference games, but did little to change the most likely final outcomes for the season.
Oregon and Arizona control their own destinies to the Rose Bowl. Their Nov. 21 game in Tucson will make for the next big game. The Ducks don’t look too potent anymore but should rebound. The Wildcats still have to go to USC.
For a look at where Oregon State is at, check out my Monday story in the GT. Here are my latest Pac-10 rankings. The top three just look strange.
1. Arizona: By default the Wildcats move to the top of the rankings, and it had nothing to do with beating Washington State. The chances of them staying here are slim to none.
2. Oregon: Somehow the Ducks were blasted by Stanford. No one saw that coming. They are still a good team and can reach the Rose Bowl if they get back on the winning track.
3. USC: A bounce-back win over Arizona State was a good step back toward the top. Trojans lay in waiting, and hope someone else knocks off the Ducks.
4. Oregon State: The dominating victory over Cal puts the Beavers near the top of the standings. They’ll need some help but there’s a shot at the top if they win the last three games.
5. Stanford: The team that pummeled the Ducks wasn’t the same team that came to Corvallis. This team is on the way up next year, especially with the way QB Andrew Luck has been developing.
6. California: The loss of Jahvid Best (concussion) hurt against the Beavers, but it will hurt more as he’ll be protected the rest of the way. At least the Bears are bowl eligible and can work on getting better for the future.
7. UCLA: Beating Washington snapped a five-game losing streak. Bruins need to win two of the last three to be bowl eligible and there’s a good chance with Washington State and Arizona State left.
8. Washington: If the Huskies can’t beat UCLA on the road, they won’t fare well this week in Corvallis. The Beavers can’t take them lightly because there’s potential.
9. Arizona State: There was a good showing against USC, but not good enough. The Sun Devils hope to play spoiler to rival Arizona and Oregon.
10. Washington State: Three more games to go before a lot work begins in the offseason. Maybe there’s the Apple Cup to look forward to.

Cliff,
This is a real jumble year in the PAC-10. I think the only schools with no shot at the Rose Bowl are UCLA, Washingion, Arizona State and Washington State.

Cliff,
Is the UW verse OSU game still going to be on FSN? I heard talk of FSN airing Stanford verse USC at this time slot. Or is it just going to be based on the region you are in?

Based on region. FSN NW will have the game. The will have the other game.

Cliff – looks like 11/21 times got released for 2 games but not ours or Ducks…I'm assuming game vs WSU might not make TV? Any updates?

I was just looking at that game. The Ducks are on ABC at 12:30 or 5 p.m.
There is no Pac-10 TV slot for OSU-WSU at the moment. WSU was hoping for TV. I'm not sure if they are trying to get an FSN NW showing for 7 p.m. or some other time or not.
As of right now, 2 p.m. with no TV is probable. It's up to WSU.

WSU has to go for TV, they need to money badly,
It looks like the 7pm slot on FSN is open. The UCLA/ASU game is showing at 1pm on FSN according to the pac 10 website.
