I also watched the penalty several times and agree...should have been OFFENSIVE pass interference. I also agree: Another example of stellar Pac-10 officiating. Here's hoping a new commish will result in some improvement in this area as well as others (Bowl tie ins...?)

I watched that play a few times. The replay had a great view of the play, as well as the official who threw the flag. The defender had his hands on the wr and vice versa. When the balls thrown, its obviously short and the defender has better position as a result. The defender then tries to seperate to make a play and the wr grabs him by the collar and pulls him down. As the defenders knees hit the ground from being pulled down, the ref reaches for his flag. AND YET ANOTHER STELLAR OFFICIATING JOB IN THE PAC 10.

kokanut,

I have the game on DVR, and I certainly believe you're right. Even the Color Commentator (who was a former Cal quarterback) said it really could have gone against the offensive player.

Did anyone get a clear look at the replay of the defensive interference call in the 2nd quarter? It sure appeared to me that the defender merely had the receiver screened from the ball, and that the receiver grabbed the defender in an attempt to get back to the ball. If the call had been offensive interference, the Beavs would have thwarted Cal's drive, and would have potentially shut out the Cal offense (and would have avoided the Best accident). I wish such plays could be objectively reviewed in the booth.

Very impressed... especially with our ability to protect #5!!! Canfield looked calm and relaxed, and with good reason as generally he had tons of time.

What did I see 11-18 on third downs? That was incredible considering how many of them were long yardage situations. Cliff, if you happen to stumble upon the stat, I'd love to know what the average 3rd down conversaion distance was.

Great day for the Beavers, though I'm sad Cal had to lose its best player. That was a scary moment and the loss affected the Bears in a big way. Get back healthy #4... Godspeed.
